What could happen is that there were many deaths in the past due to external factors, rather than due to illness, for example, road/workplace accidents. With many people staying at home, there are fewer accidents.

This Zaobao today has a chart referring only to death due to respiratory disease. There was practically no increase in death cases between 2020-2021. The death number is mostly from those unvaccianted >65
