US NYT: North Korea may take military action against South Korea within months
#1

The NYT, quoting multiple officials, said on this day, "There is a possibility that North Korea will take lethal military action against South Korea in the next few months after changing its (South Korea) policy to a hostile line."

They cited North Korea's shelling of Yeonpyeong Island in 2010 as a similar example.

The newspaper reported that the authors analyzed Chairman Kim's recent remarks and found that "a strategic decision was made to go to war," which was also read by U.S. government analysts and policymakers.

Robert Carlin, a researcher at the Middlebury Institute for International Studies, pointed out that Chairman Kim has effectively abandoned the decades-old policy of normalizing relations between North Korea and the United States. “I am surprised to see how worryingly the situation is changing,” he said, predicting that North Korea would prefer a surprise attack.
