Israel War Cabinet Silent on Next Steps After Iran Attack: Live Updates

Israel weighed its response to Tehran's overnight barrage of 350 missiles and drones, as the U.S. sought to keep hostilities from escalating.

Biden administration, seeking to de-escalate tensions & avert a regional conflict, has urged Israel to be cautious in its response, stressing that attack left limited damage thanks to Israeli, U.S. and other air-defense support that thwarted 99% of the more than 300 drones & missiles Tehran launched.

President Biden also told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that U.S. wouldn’t help attack Iran, according to a U.S. official.

Israeli officials said the coordinated air-defense–trom U.K., France and Arab neighbors Jordan and Saudi Arabia also joined the operation–demonstrated that country could overcome diplomatic isolation over Israel’s conduct of the war in Gaza and focus attention on Israel’s archrival Iran & its role in backing proxies in the Middle East. 

The Group of 7 began discussing imposing more sanctions on Iran over its drone and missile programs.
