Looking at the case it is likely an impulsive act as one can see there are so many clues left all over the place it is not likely to be pre meditated.

The other clue is the finances ....it looks like the man is running a scam or has taken the woman's money.

It could be she threaten to report him to the authorities he lost his temper and killed her.

Reminds me of the couple who went to UK..husband was triggered by something wife said lost his temper and killed her.
