US announces $2.3 billion military aid package for Ukraine Wed, a day after Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said US would soon provide Kyiv with more air defense interceptors & critical munitions, new package includes $150 million in artillery rounds, interceptor missiles and anti-tank weapons, said Pentagon. Portion of package is drawn directly from US stockpiles under Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) can be delivered Quickly. An additional $2.2 billion will be purchased of US arms manufacturers under Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, a program that takes longer to supply weapons but provides longer-term support for Kyiv. The USAI portion includes Patriot & NASAMS air defense missiles, 2 of the systems that have been critical in defending against Russian aerial barrages.
