Nutritional composition and antioxidant properties of Canarium odontophyllum Miq. (dabai) fruits.

Trees that bear fruits with desirable characteristics targeted at food and pharmaceutical markets. The present study was therefore designed with the aim of determining and comparing the nutritional composition and antioxidant properties of dabai fruits from different districts in Sarawak.

Conclusion
Considerable variability in the nutritional composition N antioxidant properties of dabai fruits from different districts was observed. In addition, differences were found between the red and purple varieties. Dabai trees at Kapit appeared to be elite trees capable of yielding fruits with high total phenolics, flavonoids and monomeric anthocyanin contents, and demonstrating the most active antioxidant properties. Identification of phenolic compounds present in dabai fruits is ongoing.
