Russia strikes Poltava with ballistic missiles, killing at least 47, injuring over 200. Russian launched two ballistic missiles on city of Poltava on Sep. 3, killing at least 47 & injuring 206 people, Ukraine's First Lady Olena Zelenska said. An educational institution & a neighboring medical facility were hit, which partially destroyed building of the Military Institute of Communications, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky.

"Time interval between alarm & arrival of deadly missiles was so short,it caught folks during an evacuation to bomb shelter," Defense Ministry said. Many people remain trapped under rubble, as rescuers & medics continue to work 24 hr at the scene. Around 2-pm. local time, emergency services had rescued 25 people, 11 were retrieved from rubble, ministry's says. "This tragedy is yet another evidence of enemy's cunning, who will not stops their crime to try to intimidate Ukrainians," the ministry said.

The US secretary of state, Antony Blinken, said Russia had received ballistic missiles from Iran and already use them in Ukraine within days. The White House national security spokesperson, John Kirby, said: “Supply of Iranian missiles has maximum range of about 75 miles, allow Russia to use those arsenal to targets beyond frontline (Iranian) warheads for closer-range targets.”

Blinken set to arrive in Ukraine in show of support for Kyiv. The top U.S. diplomat, who is traveling to Ukraine alongside Britain's Foreign Secretary David Lammy, said he will use his visit to hear directly from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and others what Kyiv's current goals in the war are and what Washington can do to help it achieve them.
