Yemen - US President Donald Trump launched large-scale military strikes against Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis on March 16 over the group’s attacks against Red Sea shipping, killing at least 31 people at the start of a campaign expected to last many days. Mr Trump also warned Iran, the Houthis’ main backer, that needed to immediately halt support for group. He said if Iran threatened the US: “America will hold you fully accountable and, we won’t be nice about it!” The unfolding strikes – which one official said would last days and maybe weeks – represent the biggest US military operation in the Middle East since Mr Trump took office in January.
It came as the US ramps up sanctions pressure on Tehran while trying to bring it to the negotiating table over its nuclear programme. “To all Houthi terrorists, your time is up, and your attacks must stop, starting today. If they don’t, hell will rain down upon you like nothing you have ever seen before!”

Yemen's Houthi rebels say there have been fresh
US strikes against them, with the number of dead rising to 53, including five children.
Targets in the Al Jaouf and Hudaydah areas were hit early on Monday, according to the rebel group, while the US Central Command said its forces had continued operations.
The US launched what it called a "decisive and powerful" wave of air strikes on Houthi targets on Saturday as part of efforts to stop Houthi attacks on shipping in the Red Sea.
Washington says some key Houthi figures are among the dead, but the group has not confirmed this.
