$300m upgrade to Bukit Timah diversion canal to help prevent flash floods completed

SINGAPORE - A $300 million upgrading project of the Bukit Timah First Diversion Canal - completed after seven years of work by national water agency PUB - will serve to strengthen Singapore's flood resilience, said Environment and Water Resources Minister Masagos Zulkifli on Friday (Sept 13).

Speaking at a ceremony to mark the project's completion, Mr Masagos added that it was one of the most expensive and complex drainage improvement projects that the agency has undertaken, but one that was a "necessary investment" in preparation for the extreme weather that climate change will bring.

"You have probably already noticed some of the impacts of climate change such as more intense rainfall and prolonged dry spells," said Mr Masagos.

Without the widening, the flood will be terrible. Last time Bukit Timah area always seriously flooded when heavy rain.
The canal water was very high, but receded fast.

Even with the best infrastructure, no country can prevent nature's disaster.
From US to China.....
We can only do so much.
But we ve come a long way. From the floods in Potong Pasir to Bkt Timah.
That time, you really needed a sampan.

Don’t see any improvement, seriously.

Nowadays need sampan to move around.

The $300m upgrade did widened the Bt Timah 1st diversion canal but it never look into the narrowing of the Ulu Pandan Canal at the old Jurong Line railway bridge near Sunset Way. So money is still wasted with this bottleneck imo.

I believe the flow rate of the drainage from this Bt Timah Plaza that flows into the Bt Timah Canal has been affected by the recent road upgrade where the old open-top canal had been replaced by a new buried one for the new 2-way traffic. Thus more likelihood of ponding near its depressed B1 entrance (facing PIE).

This means the weather war intensifies.
The so-called climate change.
You get water and Fire.
Now directing at China 3 gorges dam.
How?
As the ht increases water is seeping into the water table causing earthquates.
Once the dam goes the game changes. Hint cryptosmining nuclear reactors etc.
China is desperate watching the water level. Discharging means Vietnam flooded and all the area surrounding.
Collapse is worse. Like Tsunamic waves hitting the shoreline. Climb and then become like incredible Hulk smashing everything.
Watch the Dola.

PUB must be sweating now as the massive landslide in Clementi that has totally blocked Ulu Pandan Canal (Ave 6-Commonwealth Ave section) will mean the Bukit Timah 1st Diversion Canal is no longer functional. Before the removal of the blockage, any heavy downpour in Bt Timah area will mean massive flooding.
