Repentance is only accepted in this life. 

And yes, people in hell will eventually be taken out. One way out of hell for some is when the inhabitants of Paradise remember fondly that person, and they will ask around and when told that person is in hell, they will make a plea for him. Allah may grant it and that person will be taken out of hell and put in Paradise.

As per Islamic narrations, There are 7 levels of Heaven and 7 levels of Hell.There is no resident at the moment,except Jesus, Son of Mary, who is at lower heaven ,waiting to decend before end of the world.
Residents will enter only after resurrection and day of judgement.

No repentance is accepted when a person is already in the hell unless his kith and kin who ever already in the heaven making plea to lord of the worlds.Still,It is upto god to decide as per his deeds .Hence A person SHOULD repent while he is in this world.The Punishment and Suffering in the hell
are Physical,psychological,spiritual and varies as per sin of the condemned person. It is horrors and excruciating pain.Skin is replaced frequently.

How ever lord’s mercy most of the residents of hell, Except below mentioned will enter heaven after going through the punishment 

1)some of the children and wife of the prophets and messengers 
2)people whose name has been mentioned as resident of hell in Quran and Hadith 
3)who ever Associating partners with Lord of the worlds 
4)Killing for no allowed reason 
5)Suicide
6)Selling the religion, scriptures of God for worldly gain and to create disharmony among people.

WHO WILL ENTER HEAVEN swiftly?

-Messengers and Prophets of the lord of the worlds 
-Their wives and children, except some (Example Wife of Prophet Lut , One of the son of Prophet Noah will not enter)
-Mother of Jesus, Wife of pharaoh and others named which have been mentioned as residents of heaven in Quran and Hadith.

-children who ever died before puberty 

-People who get positive results (Good deeds out weigh bad ones)on the day of Judgement.
