Amy Khor announces new programme to train poly and ITE grads to become hawkers

Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment Amy Khor announced yesterday (11 Jan) that the government will launch a new work-study programme in March to train polytechnics and Institute of Technical Education (ITE) graduates to become hawkers (‘Poly, ITE grads can train to be hawkers under new programme‘).

The new Work-Study Post-Diploma (Certificate in Hawkerpreneurship) is a 12-month programme open to to all recent poly and ITE graduates.

Dr Khor said, “With the increasing recognition and appreciation of hawker fare, setting up a hawker stall can be considered as a gateway into the F&B sector, and there could be budding food and beverage entrepreneurs who may aspire to join the hawker trade.”

Turning Singapore into hawker market.  Thinking
Over-supply of hawkers lead to escalating high stall rentals. With many stalls selling almost similar foods will it be profitable?

Aunties and uncles got hope of employment becoming tutors in these institution. Quick! start pulling strings.

Seetoh can easily replace Amy Khor, Masago and Grace Foo for this Hawker Center Trade.

Why do we need expensive MPs who are outdated and out- of- touch?

Creating another problem for the lower income and those not so educated citizen. Being a hawker , you may need to have a diploma cert before you can have a license.
This Papaya keeps creating problem instead of enchacing the lifestyle of its people.

This current administration is a joke. You do not train and educate your young looking at the jobs you have on this island... You give the young the right assistance and opportunities so that they can rise up and the world is a very big arena for them to seek out their future.

Nothing wrong being a hawker. Just that you don't do it with polytechnic or ite certification. You do so via apprenticeship and years of hard work to perfect a dish or two...

Is it to ensure that Unesco Culture has 500 Hawker Centers to be qualified?

Another version of CECA to ruin our future?
