In which other democracies do Members of Parliament also double-hat as estate managers?

Do you not see the conflict of interest to the detriment of residents when they are faced with municipal issues of noisy neighbours, hoarding, blocking of common corridors?

MPs who are in charge of Town Councils do not wish to antagonise property owners for fear of losing votes at elections. As a result residents are asked to settle it among themselves

Votes are tied to estate management & upgrading which is in turn linked to MPs work in the Town Council

MPs are elected to be the voice of residents in Parliament, not to be the jaga of their estates

HDB should take back the management of HDB estates like in the earlier days & leave MPs free to do Parliamentarian work

The work of an MP is already part time, in between his or her full time job.

Why burden them with estate management work which in itself is a full time work?

This is wrong!

The management of HDB estates, where 95% voters live in, was carved out of HDB in the 80s with the formation of Town Councils

Before that, HDB was directly in charge of looking after Hdb estates. The functions of the Town Councils were carried out by hdb officers.

The existence of Town Councils serve to politicise the management of HDB estates by tying votes to municipal issues, leading to MPs becoming estate managers.

When they set up the Town Councils, as a result of the Town Council By-laws they had to draw a strict delineation between HDB & Town Councils, where there used to be none

Anything within your flat is HDB, outside your flat from the apron onwards is Town Council. Not many know who to refer to.

First, your problem gets pushed around. Second, Town Council will not touch issues under HDB & vice versa. Third, Town Council can only do so much when it comes to perennial problems. Why cant one single agency, ie HDB look after everything inside & out?

Afterall, we are not owners of HDB flats, we merely own the lease to the flats.

So who jaga the nation?

Who head various ministries?

Who manage national finance, housing, health care, education, etc etc? Thinking

Because Town Councils are politicised & they dare not antagonise residents too much,  a new unit is being formed to tackle issues like hoarding (as I read the other day).

Where does this end?

How many agencies does one need to deal with to get things solved in HDB estate?

So, when I read Janil screwed up in his estate management work, I can appreciate that the problem is systemic

He is a part time MP, who is also a full time senior minister of state, who also triple hat as estate manager. You can pay someone 3 different salaries, at the end of the day he still got only one pair of arms, legs, eyes & ears to do all of the above and still expected to be flawless befitting of the multi million dollars pay he gets

Tioh, iz under TC purview. Imagine if LKY himself had to personally take charge of residents compains abt shoddy flat woklmanship, lidat no need to run the country oredy. Dis type of micromanagement he will delegate to those whose job it is manage the estate. If Janil messed up his minsterial work dan it is fair to whack him, otherwise should whack the right agencies.

Dat iz why GKY was popular in his previous old constituency. He got things done quickly. Jambun aunty Lee Bee Hwa oso dealt with her residents compains swiftly. As a result she had her loyal sarpoters despite her unpopular ideologies.

WP will be unable to accomplish the same as they dun have the means to do so.
