The main reason most drivers refuse to give way is that the beneficiaries rarely, if ever, wave to indicate their gratitude. It is a little gesture that goes a long way to making other motorists kinder, but seems to be too much effort for the majority of drivers here.

Sometimes selfish people just provoke a negative response out of us. I was in a traffic jam out of JB last weekend when I signalled and placed my arm out the window to request for the driver to my right to give way as I filtered into his lane with ample space. The driver sped up instead and almost struck my outstretched arm!
