“Malaysia will demand accountability for Israel’s flagrant violations of international law,” Wisma Putra added. Mohamad is set to champion the recognition of the State of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations.

This effort aims to uphold their inherent rights to self-determination, national independence, and sovereignty, which have been persistently withheld.

The proposal advocates for a two-state solution, grounded in pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem designated as its capital. The Foreign minister is also scheduled to meet United Nations secretary-general (UNSG) Antonio Guterres, to express support for his latest call for rapid, safe, unhindered, expanded, and sustained humanitarian access into and across Gaza, the statement added.

“Malaysia acknowledges the ongoing multilateral efforts to address the ongoing situation in Palestine. Carrying the voices of Malaysians for Palestinians, the Foreign Minister will also hand over special postcards from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and members of Cabinet, addressed to the UNSG, urging the United Nations to accept Palestine as a full member state while reiterating the call for an immediate ceasefire,”

“The RCI will be established in line with the Commissions of Inquiry Act 1950 (Act 119) where the suggested members of the RCI will be brought before the King,” he said in a brief statement this afternoon.

He added that the members will consist of experts with vast experience in the judicial and legislative systems as well as public administration to avoid conflict with parties related to the matter.

In 2008, the International Court of Justice ruled that Batu Puteh belongs to Singapore, Batuan Tengah belongs to Malaysia, but the sovereignty of Tubir Selatan remains unclear.

Former Finance Minister, Tun Daim Zainuddin. MACC has obtained green light to charge Tun Daim

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Finance Minister, Tun Daim Zainuddin, was supposed to have been brought to court on charges under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act. However, the prosecution against him has been postponed by the MACC as Daim is undergoing treatment at a private hospital for undisclosed health issues.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said that they have obtained permission from the Attorney General's Chambers to prosecute the former senior minister since last week. He expressed disappointment with the doctor treating Daim, who he said failed to inform MACC investigators why the former minister is considered unable to attend court.

"We obtained approval to prosecute Daim a week ago. When investigators informed his lawyer that Daim needed to appear in court, the lawyer informed the MACC that Daim had been admitted to a private hospital. We conducted checks and found that Daim was indeed admitted to the hospital before we obtained approval to prosecute. However, as of today, we cannot ascertain why he was admitted to the hospital because the doctor treating him did not disclose what was wrong with Daim," he said.

He said, based on Daim's situation, the MACC could also bring a judge to the hospital where he is located so that the charges can be read. However, Azam added that is not their first choice unless the situation requires it.

Daim is expected to face at least one charge for failing to declare several properties jointly owned with his wife.

MACC: Probe on Anwar when Mahathir in power turned up nothing...

MACC has rejected former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad's insinuation that the graftbuster did not act on a former Bank Negara assistant governor’s allegations against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim years ago.

Instead, the MACC said its predecessor the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) had conducted an investigation on the allegations when Mahathir was prime minister, but that it turned up nothing...
