Luke O'Nien from Sunderland has family members in S'pore and is eligible to play for the Lions through his S'porean-born maternal grandfather. His great-uncle is prominent politician, Lim Kim San who played a role in the development of S'pore.

Perry Ng from Cardiff City is already 28 years old. Why didn't the FAS make the move for this professional footballer sooner?

Harry Birtwistle of Wolves can no longer represent S'pore because he is considered a NS defaulter.

Another NS defaulter Ben Davis scored for Thailand vs S'pore in a 5-0 thrashing. It just had to happen.

There are more than 20 foreigners who are in the Malaysian national football squad. The FAM exploited every loophole to recruit these players. Not only did the country qualify for the last Asian Cup, they drew 3-3 with South Korea during the tournament. The Malaysians also trounced S'pore 4-1 in the ASEAN Cup and 7-0 in the SEA Games. The FAM even managed to snatch Dominic Tan who was born in S'pore! The FAS has much to learn from their Malaysian counterparts.

Aiya ...what the big fuss ... SEA football all masak masak one lah... see lah ... most of these countries attract only 4-5 tier footballers from the major European leagues

I don't see any SEA football team qualifying for the World Cup let alone SG at least for the next 100years

Indonesia shocked Saudi Arabia by holding them to a 1-1 draw in the Asian qualifying rounds for the 2026 World Cup. The noticeable improvement to the Indonesian national team must surely be from the recruitment of foreign-born players like Elkan Baggott from England, Jordi Amat from Spain, Dutch-born trio Rafael Struick, Maarten Paes and Marc Klok. All became naturalised Indonesians recently so are eligible to represent the country. In total, the national squad has called up 7 players born outside the country. The Indonesian league is not yet strong enough to compete with the best in Asia, but players from outside can help the national coach bring change, and local players may improve by playing with these foreigners.
