Taiwanese garment is not serious about the preparation for the war until the ex U.S. Defence Secretary warned English Tsai, so they did something to make Uncle Sam happy.

Last year they were talking about extension of NS from 4 months to one year…nothing happens after that. Now Taiwan’s Mindef lays out a plan getting 16 yo Taiwanese high school students (both male and female) attend 8 hour military training per year to get ready for the war.

Majority of Taiwanese support Ukraine but they dunt want Taiwan to become another Ukraine. They have false hope on the U.S. to send troops to defend Taiwan and let U.S. soldiers die for Taiwan, they themselves are unwilling to join the army and fight in frontline. They are also not mentally prepared for the war.

Taiwan media says many rich people and DPP MPs are sending their kids overseas so that they will not be sent to the frontline if war breaks out.

To be fair to the Taiwanese government, there is practically nothing they can do even if they want to be "serious". 

All in they only have ~100 third generation fighters and 6 modern frigates. Other than that they have no other weapons that can be construed as modern, whether they are serious or how long their conscription last is entirely irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. Taiwan's military gap with China now is even larger than it was between Iraq and US during the first Gulf War in 1991.

Despite the thrash talking on PTT or when filling up survey questionnaires, the Taiwanese do not have a "false hope" that US will come and save them either. If that were the case the DPP wouldn't be in this sad predicament it currently is in and Tsai and Lai wouldn't need to shift to KMT policy of 3 NOs in the first place.

DPP politicians and the Taiwanese public are much smarter than most people give them credit for. The people peddeling this brainwashed dumb Taiwanese narrative are the KMT politicians and pan-Blue influencers who are trying to make a quick buck in mainland China.

Talking about the KMT, they are useless bunch, lost direction for the party…..majority of Taiwanese dunt support them. As for the DPP, despite they are talking loud about 抗中保台，many of them are doing business in China and making lots of money. When war breaks out, a lot of them will take the next flight to the US knowing many of them are holding US passports and green cards. 

Hopefully Lai will adjust DPP’s policy and establish a better tie with China to avoid wars.
