YANGON – Fighters from a Myanmar ethnic armed group have seized another town along a strategic highway to China, the group and a resident said, in the latest setback for the embattled junta. Northern Shan state has been rocked with fighting since the summer, when an alliance of ethnic armed groups renewed an offensive against the military along the highway to China’s Yunnan province. The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) captured the last remaining military base in the town of Hsipaw on Oct 13 after weeks of fighting, a spokeswoman for the group told AFP on Oct 14.

“We took all army bases and there is no more Myanmar army in the town,” Ms Lway Yay Oo said.
Hsipaw is normally home to around 20,000 people and sits on a highway from Myanmar’s second city, Mandalay, to the China border, along which hundreds of millions of dollars of trade travels annually. A Hsipaw resident who did not want to be named told AFP on Oct 15 that TNLA fighters had taken control of the town on Oct 13.
“There is no more fighting in the town, but we are afraid of (military) air strikes as we do not know when they will come,” he said.

Locals currently allowed to enter & leave town but many yet to return, junta no comment on fighting in Hsipaw. AFP was unable to confirm as there no htth//net.com. TNLA’s Ms Lway Yay Oo said 100 soldiers from military had “disarmed” since TNLA launched attack in Aug, without specifying what happened to them. She did not give details on TNLA or military casualties. TNLA is a member of so-called 3-Brotherhood Alliance, includes Arakan Army (AA) & the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA).

Sagaing Resistance Drone Target 2nd boss.
Oct 16, 2024. Vice Senior General Soe Win reportedly survived a double drone strike on the command HQ in MonywaM. Junta deputy leader Soe Win reportedly survived a double missile drone attack in the Sagaing Region capital, Monywa, on Tuesday morning. The Daung Ta Mann resistance group said worked with allies to fly two drones armed with bombs at heliport in Northwestern Command HQ. Resistance scouts in Monywa reported 2 blasts at military HQ, but details of damage or casualties were unknown.
After 2nd drone attack, 2 helicopters took off, according to Daung Ta Mann. Irrawaddy news could not independently verify reports. On Wed junta announced Soe Win discussed regional stability security with junta-appointed leaders of Sagaing Region in Monywa. He also met injured troops at Monywa’s military hospital.

Soe Win’s visit followed news, resistance groups & Kachin Independence Army liberated strategically located Pinlebu town in northern Sagaing Region on Oct 8 after weeks of fighting. In April, resistance drones targeted the South eastern Command in Mon State’s capital, Mawlamyine, Soe Win was visiting, some officers were reportedly injured, others killed & Soe Win was not seen in public nearly a month, sparking speculation he was hurt in the attack.

In early September, a Karenni resistance group targeted Min Aung Hlaing with shelling while he was visiting the Loikaw Regional Operation Command and Karenni (Kayah) State Hall at Loikaw, the capital of Karenni State. But the junta boss escaped the attacks.Other resistance groups targeted Min Aung Hlaing’s Naypyitaw residence, his military headquarters and a major airbase using 28 drones in early April.

Myanmar junta’s offensive west of Mandalay faces stiff resistance

Anti-regime forces say they still hold a key town in Ngazun Township despite a massive show of force by Myanmar’s military. Resistance forces in Mandalay Region’s Ngazun Township say they are continuing to successfully repel a major junta offensive launched more than a week ago. On Monday, a major clash broke out as regime forces advanced on Ngan Myar Gyi, a resistance-held town in the western part of the township, according to a member of the Zarmani Guerrilla Force, a local anti-junta group.

The regime column was attempting to reach town from south on the Tada-U-Si Mee Khon road when it was intercepted & forced to retreat, the resistance fighter said. “As of today, junta army has not been able to capture Ngan Myar Gyi. It is still under our control,” he told Myanmar Now on Tuesday. The column is 1 of 2 have been advancing on Ngan Myar Gyi since early last week. On Oct 8, the other column, approaching the contiune.

YANGON (Xinhua): As the clock struck 9.15pm on Thursday, the sky above People's Square and Park in Yangon was transformed into a canvas of brilliant colours. Fireworks burst into life, showering the night with sparkling lights, while the laughter and excitement of the crowd, along with the explosions of the fireworks, echoed through the air.

For about 10 minutes, the fireworks breathtakingly illuminated the night sky, marking the largest celebration of the Thadingyut Festival in Yangon on this full moon night. Thousands gathered -- a vibrant mix of Buddhist monks, novices, nuns, and people from all walks of life -- united in celebration. Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein graced the event.


Among the revelers was 21-year-old Wine Chit, who traveled from Pyapon with her parents. "It's my first time participating in such an event in Yangon. I already visited the Shwedagon Pagoda," she shared, her eyes sparkling with joy. Ok"Thadingyut is a time when we all come together to make merit and share our blessings with others," she added, reflecting the spirit of the festival.

On this auspicious full moon day, families flocked to pagodas and monasteries, performing good deeds by taking precepts and offering food, flowers, candles, and incense to the Buddha.

China appears to be worried about the govt that could emerge if Myanmar military collapses; it reportedly fears resistance is closer to Western nations. China condemned attack on its consulate in Mandalay in central north of Myanmar late on Friday, likely linked to the country’s ramped up support for the unpopular military regime.

A spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry said on Monday the country had lodged “serious representations” with authorities in Myanmar and urged them to make every effort to arrest the perpetrators. It follows an apparent grenade attack on the consulate in the country’s second largest city at around 7pm local time, which damaged the roof of the two-storey building but is not thought to have caused any deaths or injuries, according to exile media outlets.

YANGON: Myanmar rescuers recovered eight more bodies, including three children, on Tuesday (Oct 22) after an overloaded boat carrying around 90 people sank off the country's southern coast, a local resident told AFP. The boat had been carrying mostly students returning to southern Myeik city after a two-week break when it went down on Sunday.

As World Looks Away, Myanmar’s Junta Launches Wave of Revenge Atrocities. A column of junta troops is decapitating & disemboweling civilians in resistance stronghold of Sagaing Region again. Heads, limbs are being displayed on fence posts after the crimes occur, resistance groups and residents of the township said.

Photographs circulating online confirm that another wave of revenge atrocities has occurred. 
This time junta troops are targeting villages in the region’s Budalin Township. Resistance groups and residents say that at least 25 civilians in the township have been slaughtered over the past 10 days. They say that the junta’s military has also launched airstrikes and arson attacks on seven villages in the township.

Junta forces raiding villages along Monywa-Budalin Rd in first week of this mth, following a resistance attack that defeated a regime column near Budalin town on September 30.
