None of the European countries currently have any means of military power projection beyond North Africa. The likes of sending a token plane after traversing multiple stops along the way just for photo ops is nothing more than a headline generator.

For some odd reason many of the pro-China people seem to get upset very easily over such senseless nonsense and go into the "8 Country Alliance is back again" emo mode. There is no "8 Country Alliance", there are only US and China on the table currently. All other countries are merely mass table gamblers who are not qualified to even enter the VVIP high rollers' cardroom in the first place.

Actually I would say the only country putting up a struggle is the US and to a much lesser extent, Japan and South Korea usually after intense US lobbying. 

EU is all noise and no action - lots of anti-China political rhetoric, passing non-enforceable motions in the European parliament, negative media headlines, photo-ops etc. But to date, they don't actually hit China with anything serious enough to warrant a second look. 

As much as the western media would like to proclaim that US and all "freedom loving" countries in the world are against China in solidarity, the reality is the eagle will have to take on the panda alone. Everyone else is just sitting on the sidelines watching the show and trying to pick up any bread crumbs that fly out of the battle arena.
