S'pore's tax system is attractive to foreign investors, since companies benefit from a flat 17% corporate tax rate, which is lower than many developed nations. S'pore offers various tax exemptions and deductions to attract businesses, especially start-ups. Capital gains on investments are generally not taxed as well. Our govt targets wealthy foreigners because they believe that they bring in investments that create jobs and stimulate economic growth. However, we all know that most of these white collar jobs are actually going to foreigners - not locals. S'pore's low taxes and business-friendly govt make it appealing to the rich to shelter their wealth too.
