Rishi Sunak was never a poster boy. Everyone could see the writing on the wall and hence nobody bothered to even compete with him for the Prime Ministership.
For Sunak on a personal level he probably knows it just as well, but the whole thing makes sense for him also. This is probably the only chance an Indian can ever get to be a top guy in UK in name, so why not? Sure you get a shit reputation but at least your name will be remembered in history...
