Germany: Public figures called on Scholz to stop arms deliveries
#1

A number of people from science, politics, culture and civil society have written an open letter to Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz in view of the current debates surrounding the war in Ukraine .

As the " Berliner Zeitung " reports, the signatories demand that the Ukrainian request for the delivery of heavy weapons not be complied with. Instead, the government in Kyiv should be encouraged to end military resistance against promises of negotiations for a ceasefire and a political solution.

Arms deliveries and military support from NATO would prolong the war and delay diplomatic solutions, the signatories went on to say. Germany and other NATO countries have already made themselves de facto war parties with the arms deliveries that have taken place.

The Europeans, especially the old rich western ones like Germany and France, are in a very bad situation.

On one hand, their leaders and policy makers are aware that the US and a few opportunistic states like Poland and Lithuania are fully capitalizing on the Ukraine situation to drag the entire EU into this conflict with no end in sight. Currently the EU is paying the bulk of the price of the conflict with little to show for and the situation is going to get worse for them in the foreseeable future.

Unfortunately, they are very dependent on the public for votes and the general populace has been whipped up into war fervor so they are sort of cornered to continue the charade even if they know it's the worst possible decision they can make. The whole continent is being morally blackmailed to stumble into one political and military disaster to another.

Thankfully this nonsense seems to be confined to only the EU, the rest of the world is more interested in their own affairs and regard this drama as just another "ownself whack owneself" drama of the Europeans. Even in Singapore other than the first few weeks where a few bleeding hearts foam in the mouth non-stop, all of us seem to have moved on as well. This is very encouraging for everyone, let the Europeans spend the next decade slugging out with each other, the rest of us probably can do better while they are occupied.

China’s independent refiners start buying Russian oil @steep discounts purchase, as Chinese state-owned commodity shy away to avoid sanctions.

Shandong-based independent refinery said it had not publicly reported deals with Russian oil suppliers since the Ukraine war started in order to avoid attracting scrutiny and being hit by US sanctions.

Official added that refinery had taken over some of the purchase quota for Russian crude from state-owned commodity trading firms, which are seen to represent Beijing and have mostly declined to sign new supply contracts.

Many western companies are self-sanctioning or struggling to secure insurance, shipping or financing needed to buy Russia’s commodity exports, raising expectations that energy-hungry China will step in.
