Goh Meng Seng accuses Government of lying about TCM treatment for Covid-19, MOH responds

SINGAPORE - People’s Power Party chief Goh Meng Seng’s claims that the Government is lying about having studied a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) treatment for mild Covid-19 infections are baseless, said the Ministry of Health (MOH) on Sunday (Nov 21).

Mr Goh had made a Facebook post accompanied by an hour-long video on Thursday, where he said it is “totally untrue” that there are no scientific studies on the suitability of Lianhua Qingwen in treating Covid-19.

To date, a few randomised control clinical trials on Lianhua Qingwen have been conducted, only in China, said MOH.

The number of patients in these trials were not large enough to offer conclusive scientific evidence that Lianhua Qingwen can be used to prevent or treat Covid-19 in Singapore, the ministry added.

MOH said there is insufficient evidence.

Successful politicians always start with the premise that they can be wrong and cen be discredited ...then work their way from there.

If you assume you are right the start your attack...your opponents can take you out with bullets they kept. Goh Meng Seng just repeat this pattern over a 20yr period ...even those who support him get tired.

When you pick an issue make sure you can go all the way and withstand the counters. Look at MP from PSP they threw many rocks at him and almost sank him but he survived.

Only Trump was able to break the model as he convince his supporters that facts don't matter and truth is what you think it is.  This won't work in Singapore.

Given the usually careful WP, has one of its parliamentarians discredited and credibility one would think people will learn from this.

I hear traditional medicine make claims can cure cancer, cure diabetes, cure kidney failure, can this and that.

I am not against these claims but the verification process is not as stringent as for modern medicine.

I remember the FDA started to fund trials on supplements that claim to cure various ailments. The first 5, all fail.....and the products still sell on the market as supplements.

The bar for testing medicine is always set very high because charlatans always come and say "eat this can cure this and that"....since 1000yrs ago, also claims exists and are widely believed.

MOH shd hv put in efforts to save patients life by administering these TCM drugs with the combination of Western medicines, before they gets critical  and succumbed to death. Subdued their seriousness and suppressed the virus strength, so that they recovered quickly. China also did the same strategy of combining both western and eastern drugs to save patients. To try is better than not trying at all.

With the WP badly shaken as a result of Khan's lying debacle and taking no action to date, it's very disappointing to see other opposition parties getting into all sorts of nonsense one after another. First there was that infighting surrounding the Indian lady PSP candidate, then now we have GMS doing his usual UFO shtick again...

We barely had a bit of progress in WP securing 10 parliamentary seats and now all these non-PAP parties seem intent on impressing upon ordinary Singaporeans that they are qualified to run the circus.

I'm sure herbal medicine can immediately reduce death cases, ICU cases, etc and make more hospital beds available.

All  these links are very informative in regards to the values and effectiveness of TCM drugs.  My 67 year old Sis-in-law was infected with Covid in Kuching.  She took Lianhua Qingwen Jiaonang with the combination of western drugs. She recovered and was
discharged from hospital on the 12th day.

To b fair to TCM medicines, our medical council shd have at least a TCM expert practitioner on board to give advice ...btw, there r so many specialists in both western tcm medicine here.

A yin yang approach will b the right strategy to reduce infection rates n morbidity mortality nos.

After all, eastern n western medicines have the same desired outcome...to curb the virus asap so ordinary folks can get along with their lives n keep biz , economy growing.
