Hamas proposes 3-stage ceasefire over 135 days, leading to end of war

Donald Trump has made an impact on Middle East even before he sits down in Oval Office to start his second term as president. He cut through delaying tactics that Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in alliance with his ultra-nationalist coalition partners, had used to avoid accepting the ceasefire deal that Joe Biden put on the negotiating table last May.

American pressure on Hamas & other Palestinian groups is a given. Under Biden, pressure on Israel was the lever was never pulled. Trump starts his second term claiming credit, with reasonable justification, for getting ceasefire deal in Gaza over the line. He can bask in some glory.
Netanyahu, on the other hand, is dealing with a coalition crisis. As entire principle of doing a deal with Hamas is repugnant to ultra-nationalist politicians who have supported his govt.

One of them, the National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir says his party, Jewish Power, will only support the govt if it resumes the war, cuts off all aid to Gaza and destroys Hamas. If that does not happen, he will resign. That will be of no importance to Donald Trump. The push for a Gaza ceasefire demonstrated Trump would put the interests of his presidency before the political requirements of Israel's prime minister.

Israel's nationalist right was delighted when Trump won his landslide victory in November. They assumed Trump would give them even more licence than Biden had. Reality might be more complicated. Just as Israel is not the same country that Trump left behind when he left office in 2021, Trump may not be the president that they encountered the first time around.

The long-awaited Gaza ceasefire & hostage release deal is expected to begin at 8:30 a.m. local time (1:30 a.m. ET) on Sunday, potentially signaling a new chapter in a bloody 15-mth conflict that enflamed Middle East.

• Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu praised deal, but said it could not move forward until Hamas supplies a list of hostages to be released. He warned he reserves right to resume fighting if deal falls apart — would have US backing in doing so.

• Thirty-three Israeli hostages are expected to be freed in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in the first phase of deal. 3 female Israeli civilian hostages are expected to be released on Sunday, says US officials.

• In the days leading up to ceasefire, Israel maintained its bombardment of Gaza, killing @least 122 people, injuring 270 others since deal was announced on Wednesday, says Gaza’s Civil Defense.

As aid trucks R already lining up @Rafah border crossing, Egypt’s state-affiliated Al Qahera News reported, ahead of ceasefire. Aid into Gaza will be ramped up to 600 trucks per day. But UN warns would be “only a start” in addressing humanitarian crisis in the enclave.... Clapping

Tel Hashomer Hospital Director Dr. Yael Frankel-Nir says that the physical condition of the released hostages is good enough to allow them to focus on reuniting with family members.

“Their condition allows us to focus on the important thing, which is reuniting with their families, and to postpone delving into medical issues for a few hours,” she says.

“We are closely accompanying them and their families,” she says.

Israel kills 10 in West Bank; 120 bodies found in Gaza over 2 days. At least 10 Palestinians have been killed and many wounded in an Israeli military raid on the occupied West Bank city of Jenin, health officials say. Civil defence staff report that 120 decomposed bodies have been recovered from under the rubble of destroyed buildings in Gaza over two days.

Almost 900 trucks of aid entered Gaza on Tuesday as assistance surged into the war-ravaged territory after Israel’s blockade lifted, the UN’s humanitarian agency said. The UN Human Rights Office in the occupied West Bank says freedom of movement for Palestinians has been “massively restricted” as illegal Israeli settlements expand.

U.S. President Donald Trump’s UN ambassador pick says Israel has a “biblical right” to the occupied West Bank.

A UN official says aid agencies in Gaza are increasing food distribution, restocking and rehabilitating hospitals, and repairing water networks as the Israel-Hamas ceasefire continues to largely hold. The relief effort comes as aid groups warn a looming Israeli ban on the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) could severely harm recovery efforts in Gaza.

Now!. Trump is keen to talk to Russia Putin!.
He said he seeks to restart nuclear disarmament talks with the US/Rissia under President Donald Trump.

This was after Trump said he and Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin had discussed "denuclearisation" during his previous term as US President.

"China would have come along," Trump said in a virtual address to World Economic Forum in Davos.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said any negotiations on nuclear disarmament  will have to consider the weapons stockpile of France and the UK.

Meanwhile, Russian official Sergei Shoigu warned of growing nuclear clash risks, blaming NATO's activities, while NATO criticized Russia’s actions in Belarus.

The four Israeli soldiersall girlsKarina Ariev, Daniella Gilboa, Naama Levy, and Liri Albag all
briefly walked on to a podium in khaki military fatigues, smiling and holding hands, their long hair pulled into neat shiny ponytails. Two raised their hands to give a thumbs up towards the cheering crowds, before the group climbed into cars from the International Committee of the Red Cross to be driven out of Gaza.

In Tel Aviv, the families of Israelis who remain captive in Gaza flocked to a central square alongside their supporters to watch live footage of the handover, some weeping with joy and cheering. A few waved Israeli flags, while others held pictures of female Israeli soldiers and other captives expected to be released. Video released of the soldiers’ families watching the handover at a military base showed them shrieking with joy.

Lines of masked, uniformed fighters from Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad – groups that hold people taken hostage on 7 October 2023 – flanked the square in central Gaza City, with Palestinian flags strung overhead. A woman threw confetti over the crowds of militants in celebration. In a show of their capabilities after months of war, columns of militants stood among the crowds with shiny white cars decked in flags and ringed the square in their dozens, putting automatic weapons on the car rooftops. The four Israeli soldiers were handed to Israel IDF & flown by helicopter to hospital in Israel for initial checks. They are expected to be taken to 2nd facility to meet families for first time in 15 mths.

On January 23, the movement of a U.S. Air Force Boeing C-17 Globemaster III military transport aircraft was detected, Technical. aircraft took off from Germany & spent about 3-hours at Israel’s Nevatim Air Force Base, then departed & landed at main military supply hub for Ukraine—Rzeszow International Airport in Poland.

The exact mission of C-17 what it delivered to Poland remain unclear, possibilities include both humanitarian aid & military supplies. If focus on military aid, it’s entirely plausible Israel delivered several shipments to Poland intended for Ukraine. The first most logical possibility is the delivery of Soviet Russian ammunition and weapons. Just a day earlier, Tel Aviv promised Kyiv weapons seized from various defeated groups in region would be cataloged to provided to Ukraine. Primarily involves small arms, bombs, grenades, grenade launchers & captured ammunition.

Another possibility is delivery of a Patriot air defense system. Talks between Washington & Tel Aviv such as transfer occurred mid-last year. Still, the outcome of those negotiations remains unknown.

Eight of the remaining hostages set to be released by Hamas in the first phase of a ceasefire agreement with Israel are dead, according to an Israeli government spokesperson. The rest of the 33 hostages who were expected to be returned from Gaza to their families are alive, David Mencer said in a briefing on Monday, including seven who have already been returned. Israeli authorities were notified of the hostages’ status after receiving a list from Hamas, he said. According to Mencer, the eight dead were killed by Hamas. The Palestinian militant group has not commented on their cause of death. The main UN agency serving Palestinians in the occupied territories, including Gaza, looks likely to be shut down on Thursday as Israel defied widespread international support for agency in a move Unrwa predicted would “sabotage Gaza’s recovery and political transition”.

Unrwa’s banning looks certain, as Israel’s high court of justice refused a last-minute request to intervene to suspend the law forbidding the agency from operating in Israel. Palestinians in the war-devastated Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, are expected to be hardest hit by the ban, including about 30,000 Unrwa workers.

The imminent closure comes as Egypt’s president, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, emphatically rejected from the U.S. emperor suggestions from Donald Trump. Palestinians from Gaza should be “cleaned out” to Egypt and Jordan, describing the idea as an “act of injustice”. Tongue

Israel, with the backing of the emperor Trump administration, will cut ties with Unrwa from Thursday, amid condemnation from aid groups as well as US allies, including the UN secretary-general, António Guterres, who demanded that it retract its order and said Unrwa was “irreplaceable”.
