“The Israeli media’s incitement to Hamas’s response is an indication of attempts to evade the agreement’s obligations,” tensions surfacing at a sensitive moment. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is currently on diplomatic swing through region trying to secure agreement plan first unveiled by President Biden 11-days ago.
Plan, drafted by Israel, has made public in full. Endorsed by UN Security Council Monday, plan envisages a 6-wks ceasefire which Hamas would release hostages & Israel also release Palestinian prisoners that would evolve into a permanent cessation of hostilities through negotiations.

White House axes meeting with Israeli officials after Netanyahu claimed US withheld weapons – report. White House has canceled a meeting with high-level Israeli officials that was scheduled to take place Thursday, Axios reports, after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that the US was withholding weapons shipments from Israel.

According to the report, the meeting was set to be a strategic dialogue on Iran, and would have been attended by officials from the Pentagon, the US State Department and intelligence agencies, along with their Israeli counterparts.

US has been looking to recruit Arab allies for the initiative, as it readies to roll out its vision for the post-war management of Gaza, even though a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas remains elusive. During visits to Qatar, Egypt, Israel and Jordan two weeks ago, Blinken interlocutors the US has made progress on the issue, receiving support from Cairo and Abu Dhabi for creation of a force who would work alongside  Palestinian officers, according to Arab official, a US official and a third source familiar with the matter.

Egypt & UAE both stipulated conditions for their involvement, including a demand that initiative be linked to the establishment of a pathway to a future Palestinian state an outcome PM Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to block.

The 3rd source familiar with matter said Egypt is also demanding complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza — a condition likely to clash with Netanyahu’s pledge to maintain overall security control of the Strip after war, with ability to re-enter as necessary in order to prevent the revival of Hamas.

Meanwhile, the UAE demanded US involvement in post-war Gaza security force, US Secretary Blinken clarified, though, that the US would not be contributing troops of its own. Arab official said.

Blinken told counterparts, US would help establish train the security force, ensure that it would have a temporary mandate, so that it could eventually be replaced by a fully Palestinian body, the third source said, adding goal is Palestinian Authority to eventually take over Gaza. Reuniting the Strip & the West Bank under a single governing entity is seen as an integral step toward an eventual two-state solution.
