I seriously doubt handsets can communicate directly with satellites. In order to send signals so far away, the handset will need to have an extremely powerful power amplifier and high gain antenna. Given its small size, it's just not feasible.

technically it's not a problem as satellite phones already exist for quite some time, just that they are bulky, expensive and short battery life

You know what's the transmit power of a satellite phone? The Iridium phone, for example, output 10W on average, while our typical handsets only transmit 200mW. That's a factor of 50.

Even if the regulators allow the high transmit power of handphones (which I seriously doubt they'll allow), the handsets will have to be much bigger to carry a bigger battery. Keeping to current size is not possible.

below is the real satellite phone using T-mobile network in US! that means T- mobile users can cover every inch on earth surface also has signal, in any point of huge ocean or south poles, you can get signal using SpaceX satellites!
all these moronic comie dogs can only name calling & personal attack!, cant post proper post & thread!

I always get a feeling that sometimes their management gets carried away and announce things when not fully ready, or announce it wrongly.

Just take an example of the Harmony OS. I remember their CEO announce that Harmony OS is completely different from Android but really this is not true. Harmony OS is using code from the Android Open System Project.

Just my opinion anyway.
