(03-08-2024, 12:12 AM)S I M T A N Wrote: Archbishops, pastors, ministers and even popes are fallible and make mistakes at times. Pope Francis caused quite a stir when he declared: "The Lord has redeemed all of us, all of us, with the Blood of Christ: all of us, not just Catholics. Everyone! 'Father, the atheists?' Even the atheists, Everyone!"
Now is it true that everyone will be redeemed from sin - even virulent atheists like Richard Dawkins and the most hardened atheists who have rejected belief in any god - regardless of what they believe? Perhaps we should listen closely to what the apostle Peter had to say about this issue. Catholics believe he was the first pope, but whether you believe Peter was the first pope or not, he was the undisputed leader of the other apostles and the church at Jerusalem. As a part of the inner circle of Jesus's closest associates, he was in a position to know Jesus's beliefs as well as anyone.
"Let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead - by this name this man stands here before you in good health ... And there is salvation in no else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:10,12).
Would the brethren and members of the "house of Israel" need to do anything? After all, they were already part of God's chosen nation. The males would have been circumcised, and they ritually offered sacrifices as the OT prescribed. Peter stated that their sacredly-held Jewish beliefs weren't enough to be saved.
"Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit" (Act 2:38).
At the heart of the message was that everyone - Jews, Muslims, Catholics, Baptists, atheists, anti-theists - must trust in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins. Jesus not only declared Himself to be the only way to eternal life but also taught that all other roads lead to eternal destruction. In God we trust, all others we verify.
I don't remember reading that. He said he is the way but he didn't include the word "only".
If God sends a messenger to you with guidance, surely that guidance is the only way to God, wouldn't you agree?
