Indonesia's government is working with Malaysia, which holds the chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, to coordinate a regional response as all member countries have been affected by the U.S.'s reciprocal tariff plan, Moegiarso added.

Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia face some of the toughest tariffs at 46%, 36%, and 24%, respectively.

Trump’s tariffs have primarily been centered on revitalizing American manufacturing, with an emphasis on reshoring (bringing manufacturing back to the U.S.) and near-shoring (moving production closer to the U.S., often to countries like Mexico).

The idea behind these tariffs, especially those targeting China and other trading partners, is to make imported goods more expensive, thereby encouraging companies to produce goods domestically or nearby.
