I find it difficult to speak my dialect.
Not many around.
Chinese Mandarin?
My Mandarin very shallow and sound odd.
Malay? Can use at market place only.
So, most of the time English.
But real angmo find my English odd too.
I am rojak. A true Singaporean.

It's a great advantage to be bilingual or even multilingual... only fools aspire to be monolingual

S'pore is becoming a monolingual country, except not in English, but its English-based patois referred to as Singlish. Proponents of Singlish view it as unique to S'pore and an expression of our multicultural identity. However, the reality is that most S'poreans are unable to code switch effortlessly between this solidified creole and grammatically correct English.

Even though English is considered a global language, most S'poreans appear to have command of less than 35% of the words in the lexicon. The same may be said of most S'poreans' fluency in Mandarin. Adding Singlish into the mix serves only to confuse and hinder the learning of Standard English.

Enough to communicate and write, should be good enough no one ask you to master them or get a PHD in them

Communicate and converse is good enough

Proper spoken English instantly defines us as highly educated people whose views and opinions are taken more seriously.  A strong command of the language is likely to lead to better paying jobs, greater social mobility as well as more social success.

Education does not mean you are educated

Your stuck in the old world mentality strategy of scaling social ladder is obsolete.

Look at the world today, many top biz man and management command of language is at best average.

The ability to communicate and inspire do not need a  strong command of the language

A good example of this is EngRot ... their mastery of English yet society and global status are decaying to the core. Similarly their slaves ... smelly bull shitting raping CECA ....they hasn't progress since 1949

My parents came to S'pore from Malaysia in the early 1970s. I have an excellent command of the English language in both its spoken and written forms while retaining a strong command of Mandarin and the ability to converse in both Malay and Hokkien. We just need the drive to work hard at learning and mastering different languages and dialects.

Having a good education does not mean one is wise. Same goes for command of English. Able to speak good English does not equate to one being intelligent nor wise.

Education is the process of acquiring knowledge, skills and values through learning, while wisdom is the ability to apply that knowledge and experience to make sound judgments and decisions.

Total rubbish from a very unwise person acting as very wise. Someone who is wise may not even have an education. Plenty of such people around.

Your current statement demonstrates an overestimation of oneself.
