Nope. In a certain sense, this commentary is totally missing the point.

The real danger isn't that Russia and China are "moving closer together", but rather Russia is subsuming itself under a China led alternative world order which has wide appeal to the Global South.

To make it worse for the US, not only is the Global South finding China's proposition attractive, even its close allies like Australia, UK, Germany, France etc. are having a great time integrating themselves economically with China. Heck, internally even its own elite class like the mega corporations refuse to break up with China.

This sort of commentary implicitly creates the misimpression that US is taking action against China while China has no choice but to seek common enemies of the US to fend off. This is incorrect. China is the one that is "attacking" US hegemony on all fronts (geopolitics, diplomacy, economy, technology, cultural) and such US actions are actually reactionary in nature to such assaults.

If the underlying axiom of the relationship is already wrong, its conclusions and prescriptions are only going to deviate further from reality.
