Japan Epsilon rocket launch fails, self-destruct command sent

A Japan space agency-conducted launch failed on Wednesday, with an Epsilon rocket ordered to self-destruct about seven minutes after takeoff.

The Epsilon-6 rocket apparently experienced an issue that made it unable to fly normally, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency said.

The order came at 9:57 a.m., after the rocket lifted off from Uchinoura Space Center in the southwestern prefecture of Kagoshima around 9:50 a.m., JAXA said. It was carrying eight satellites developed by entities including private firms and universities.
