to do without one will be in disadvantage, especially young ones.

Just now at bukit timah mfc saw the hawkers there slogging so hard to make a living. Mostly old folks but quite a number are young men and women. A degree lets the potential employer know you are at least interviewing someone who has gone thru an education system.
Only self-entitled losers will assume a degree guarantee you employment let alone success
