It was a controlled rapid descent to avoid low pressure in the cabin. Very misleading for SCMP to use the word "plummet" in the headline.

Roughly 30 minutes after taking off, the plane started descending sharply, dropping nearly 7600 metres (25,000 feet) in five minutes, according to data from FlightRadar24.

Luckily this happened at takeoff stage, everyone was sitting there with seatbelts on.

They have a problem with the pressurization system that's why they dropped 7,600m in 5 minutes.

Unfortunately, people suffered due to the huge drop in such a short period because the pressurization system is faulty.

The reason for the drop is the faulty pressurization system and when both are added together, people suffered.

This is not caused by air turbulence.

“Our commitment to the safety and well-being of our passengers and crew remains unchanged. We apologise to all affected by this incident,” it said.

If the above is true to what they mean, they should have switched to safer planes!
