He said it involved a capital study to find out if there were any private parties interested in covering the cost of line construction, system management and operation of the HSR.
"Malaysia now through MyHSR Corp has been implementing RFI (request for information) for several months and many companies have shown interest and have already sent papers, some have also asked for more time to finalize their proposals.

"KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 — The government is examining a new implementation model for the proposed Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR) project, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
He said it includes a new financing model to determine whether any private parties are interested in covering the cost of the project, system management and the operation of the HSR."
The only way to feasibility is to sublet the lands out to private HSR company for 60 years. Let them build and operate the HSR as a profiteering private entity. Bearing all cost involved.
Malaysia and Singapore government just manage the surrounding area's development at the stations.
Collect revenue from sales of land or rentals.

I think the HSR itself will not make money. It is the surrounding areas with rental, like our MRT system, that help to support the system.

In Malaysia, if you don't have a car, you are handicapped. 😉
Same as in many bigger countries.
Building a complex infrastructure for city public transportation, in achieving convenience, is very tedious and expensive. And must start planning in the beginning.
Not many government willing to spend such huge budget.

Infrastructure is not for making money.
With good infrastructure, it will facilitate businesses and economic activities which will in turns bring in more money for government.

HSR can never happen between 2 countries. SG just build one between Jurong West and Changi for the sake of having HSR!
