Update 18 May 2024:  Big Grin

Within a month of launch, Xiaomi has already built 10,000 SU7 electric sedans
More than 700 robots reportedly operate in the factory; 381 of those robots are deployed in the body shop alongside 20 employees. This allows Xiaomi to assemble parts to the car body in under 30 seconds, or about twice as fast as traditional automakers, the company claims. That strategy, Xiaomi says, allows it to be three times more efficient than if it employed only human workers.

Update Mar 2024:
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun said the standard version of the SU7 will sell for 215,900 yuan ($30,408) in the country — a price he acknowledged would mean the company was selling each car at a loss. Tesla’s Model 3 starts at 245,900 yuan in China. Lei claimed the standard version of the SU7 beat the Model 3 on more than 90% of its specifications, except on two aspects that he said it might take Xiaomi at least three to five years to catch up with Tesla on. He also said the SU7 had a minimum driving range of 700 kilometers (nearly 435 miles) versus the Model 3′s 606 kilometers. The company said orders had exceeded 50,000 cars in the 27 minutes since sales started at 10 p.m. Beijing time Thursday.

America’s average 5G mobile internet speed is roughly 75 megabits per second, which is abysmal. In China’s urban centers 5G phones get average speeds of 300 megabits per second.

Bloomberg (29 Dec 2023) - Xiaomi, once known as a producer of cheap smartphones, has been fighting to sustain growth in an increasingly saturated and plateauing global market. Before the September quarter, the company had posted a sales decline in every three-month period since 2021.

Now, it is seeking to challenge not just other EV makers but also newer entrants like Huawei Technologies in an arena where it has shown little unique expertise.  Xiaomi’s EV foray is a US$10 billion (S$13.2 billion) wager by CEO and co-founder Lei Jun that his company can shake up the transport sector much as it did smartphones a decade ago. Mr Lei said he had driven 150 different cars since committing to making the SU7.

EV business is a competitive one burning lots of cash to get market share.

Unless there is something special about xiaomi cars it is just one of the many players in a crowded field.

Having said this ....xiaomi is used to entering crowded markets and gaining market share. . They did in the TV and robo vacuum space.

The problem many failed to notice is consumer today no longer care where the product is made.

Our globalised World over last 30 decades have spoiled many of us with choices and affordable products.

And this is made possible with very very brutal competition... The very thing that Elon Musk never though possible in his EV domination just 12 years ago...

You forget -

Unlike large Western businesses which depends on stock performance and constant cash flow from investors, the Chinese enterprises started out from the very basic competing on cost alone which forces them to be very very sensitive to $ and nimble to market demand...

The result is the Chinese market is a very competitive and unforgiving place to do business, because it is crowded of people who believe in the Survival of the Fittest.

Seems the CEO had under estimated how productive his Xiaomi factory can be.... Cool

Following the announcement of bagging over 75,000 orders for its maiden car offering, tech giant Xiaomi has announced it has crossed the production milestone of 10,000 units for its all-electric SU7. The Xiaomi SU7 EV was unveiled back in December 2023, and deliveries of the car began subsequently, with Xiaomi previously stating it had delivered 5,781 vehicles by April 28, 2024.
