This article managed to get the gist of the entire situation all wrong. Very typical western lenses point of view.

The junta is not "seeking support". What they are doing now, together with firming up action on the online fraud criminal gangs, is an official "apology" to China for colluding with the criminals to make money at the expense of Chinese citizens.

The Chinese on the other hand are now  signaling to everyone that they accept the junta's apology and will only support the other warlords to the extent of rooting out criminal gangs, but will not in any way help them to revolt against the junta, take over Naypyidaw or build up a puppet government.

This development is as per my comments made on the Myanmar situation a few weeks ago.
