The biggest dip in interest to vote happened among the below-30 age group. 76% and 74 respondents said they would vote in the previous surveys, the number dropped to 68% in the latest research.

Voting inclination among the Chinese was the lowest across all age groups, and high (75-86 percent) among the Malays and Indians.

Commenting on the possible GE15 outcome, Merdeka Center said that it is difficult to estimate, given the presence of three significant coalitions with large bases of support, as well as uncertainties on likely turnout rates.

“At this point, with the lower-than-expected level of Malay voter support for BN, it is possible to imagine that no single coalition will attain a large enough plurality to form a government with just one other party or coalition.

To Note:  crying Instead, there is a rising possibility that at least three or more parties/coalitions are needed to cooperate to form a government with a simple majority,” the survey said.

Barisan can form govt on night of Nov 19 or morning of Nov 20, says Mohamad Hasan

KUALA LUMPUR: With less than six days till polling, Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan is confident that Barisan Nasional will form govt on the prevail morning of Nov 20 2022.

He said “I came down from the war room and I looked at it (data) myself. I’m confident that we can form the govt on the night of Nov 19 or morning of Nov 20,” said Mohamad at a press conference at the World Trade Centre KL Monday (Nov 14).

However, the Barisan election director, stopped short at revealing the number of seats the coalition is able to win. I don’t want to tell the numbers yet. We can cross the bridge, I’m quite confident.”

A record 945 candidates are running for the 222 parliamentary seats at the country's 15th general elections on Saturday.

Whether that is a good thing is uncertain, although it underscores the democracy of this year's election, according to ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute senior fellow Norshahril Saat.

Which parties to watch for and what to expect ahead of polling day

Over 21 million eligible Malaysians to vote up from 18 million in 2018. Malaysian parliament approved a bill to reduce voting age to 18 years from 21.

Pakatan Harapan the largest opposition coalition. Fielded the highest number of candidates at 206.

Barisan Nasional, country's longest ruling coalition, includes the coalition's founding member and the nation's oldest political party, United Malays National Organisation (UMNO). Barisan Nasional's 178 candidates contesting the election.

Perikatan Nasional has fielded 149 candidates. Perikatan gained notoriety after it was formed in 2020 following the defection of members from Pakatan Harapan. The party coup has since coined the "Sheraton Move," named meeting of defected members at the Sheraton Hotel. Two of those responsible for the coup, Azmin Ali, care minister of international trade and industry and Muhyiddin Yassin, who succeeded Dr M after the defection, are key members of Perikatan.

And Senior statesman Mahathir is running his own coalition of four parties, Gerakan Tanah Air which will be contesting 125 seats.

If it yes a hung parliament.

It would result in political horse-trading, brinkmanship and complex bargaining among the coalitions, including who becomes the next prime minister of Malaysia.

The party or coalition which wins 112 seats – a simple majority – will form the government.

Voters now have many choices to choose from. What this means for stability, I am not sure, but it's definitely democratic.

According to Mustafa Izzuddin, senior international affairs analyst with Solaris Strategies Singapore, there are some hot electoral federal seats to watch out. They include Tambun in Perak, which is being contested by Anwar, and Gombak in Selangor, which is being defended by Azmin.

"It could be Anwar's political swansong if he is defeated and a referendum of his leader-of-the-opposition status and his chances of becoming prime minister of Malaysia," Mustafa said.

"If Azmin is defeated, it will be a testament to the Sheraton perpetrators being punished by the Malaysian electorate for bringing down the Pakatan Harapan government."

On past elections, all eyes would be on which party gets the largest share of the Malay vote followed by the Chinese votes and in some seats, the Indian votes as well, Mustafa said.

There is some developments in eastern state of Sabah where there is"shifting political alignments" among parties and coalitions. Watchful eyes are on Sabah as East Malaysia will likely play a pivotal role on who forms the Federal government in Malaysia,"

Given the large number of parties and candidates, a hung parliament is also a likelihood. This would result in political horse-trading, brinkmanship and complex bargaining among the coalitions, including who becomes the next prime minister of Malaysia.

With Dr M failed to defend his Langkawi seat. Won by Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah, with majority of 13,518 votes.

The fourth and the seventh PM would focus on writing about the history and activities of the country. The many events that happened in this country have not been recorded.

For eg: The GE15 last Saturday Parliament hung. No coalition of political parties managed to get a simple majority with Pakatan Harapan (PH) won 82 seats and Perikatan Nasional (PN), 73 seats, Barisan Nasional (30), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (23), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (six), Warisan (three).

Meanwhile Dr M, Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA-Pejuang), failed to win any seat. Tongue

Note: Pejuang lost in all 125 constituencies, the party could not even be the Opposition in Parliament (Dewan Rakyat). Nothing to plans for Dr M for he had plan for the country had to be dropped. Plan nothing for Pejuang to look at govt, as they's no winning party. He is sad.

It is understood that what transpired was that Muhyiddin failed to prove that he had secured a simple majority in order to convince Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah to choose him.

"The Yang di-Pertuan Agong has to be sufficiently convinced in order to decide that, in his belief, a person has secured the majority to be appointed as the prime minister.

"The king would only make a decision once he was convinced. "Even though Muhyiddin had sent 115 SDs to the palace, it was not proof that all the names mentioned were in support of him," said a source.

The Malaysian Bar said it had submitted more than 60 working papers to “initiate progress in working towards a matured and truly democratic nation”, among them a paper advocating the review of the Judicial Appointments Commission Act 2009.

The body also advocated a more inclusive JAC, one that reflect the country's diversity. “Means inclusion of  wide spectrum of Malaysia’s rich multicultural and multireligious population, to reflection good balance of the genders and professional practice areas,”

Noted JAC has nine members, four of whom are the most senior judges in Malaysia, while the remaining five are appointed by prime minister. The Malaysian Bar had warned that selection of eminent persons leaves open the possibility that former members of the executive anwhich could lead to political interference.d public service, members of Parliament and other politicians may sit on the JAC,

“The Malaysian Bar reiterates yet again that the powers of the PM in the judicial selection and appointment process under the JAC Act be removed, so as to ensure independence of the JAC to run its own affairs, and that a Parliamentary Select Committee on key matters be possibly involved to provide check and balance.

“These reforms would be necessary to uphold the independence of the Judiciary.”
