Russians deployed North Koreans on battlefield and lost friendly Chechen mercenaries in blue on blue incident – Ukraine's Defence Intelligence.

Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) has reported Russia began using North Korean soldiers in assault op in Kursk Oblast, particularly as part of combined marine & airborne units, but they opened friendly fire and killed eight Kadyrovites [Kadyrovites is the collective term for Chechen troops loyal to country's leader, crying Ramzan Kadyrov – ed.].

Source: DIU....Details: As DIU notes, the North Korean troops suffered losses – both killed and wounded – as a result of a successful attack by Ukraine’s defence forces. Specifically, North Korean troops were effectively targeted by FPV (first-person view) drones at one of the positions in Kursk Oblast.

As Ukrainians received approval long-range ATACMS missiles, they successfully used to hit targets deep into Russian rear, devastating effect, their previous ATACMS strikes. This 2nd tine wave of strikes, further straining Russian war effort. The first target by Ukraine's is a strategically important airbase city of Taganrog. Ukrainian employed 6-ATACMS missiles in attack, inflicting significant damage aircraft repair plant located near airbase, this destruction will hinder Russia's ability to maintain repair critical strategic A-50 airborne early warning control planes & other military aircraft. Consequently, Russian Air Force will face operational capacity, with fewer combat sorties & diminished airstrike effectiveness limited airborne radar-coverage & bases facilitate.

Kadyrovites is a collective term for Chechen troops loyal to leader, Ramzan Kadyrov.
The DIU added incident was result of language barrier between Russian/North Korean troops, continues to be a “difficult obstacle” on battlefield.

Ukraine. It’s called ‘Tryzub’. Vadym Sukharevskyi, Ukraine's Commander of Unmanned Systems Forces, seen in Kyiv in August. Ukraine has developed a laser weapon capable of shooting down targets from more than a mile away, the country’s drone force commander has claimed. Speaking at a defense summit in Kyiv this week, Vadym Sukharevskyi, Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems said, “Today, we can already shoot down aircraft with this laser at an altitude of over 2 kilometers (1.2 miles).”

“It truly works, it truly exists,” he said, the Interfax-Ukraine news agency reported, adding that efforts were being made to enhance the weapon’s scale and capabilities. Laser is named the Tryzub, or Ukrainian for “trident,” a nod to Ukraine’s national symbol representing independence, strength, and unity.

I should have invaded Ukraine earlier, Putin tells Russians in TV marathon said Putin. Russian President Vladimir Putin has said Russia should have launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine earlier and been better prepared for the war.

In his end-of-year press conference on Thursday, Putin said, with hindsight, there should have been "systemic preparation" for the 2022 invasion, which he refers to as a "special military operation".
Russia seized Crimea from Ukraine in 2014 and pro-Russian forces began a conflict in eastern Ukraine, but it was eight years later that Putin tried to seize Kyiv.

During his four-hour long appearance, Putin also talked about Syria's deposed leader, Russia's more aggressive nuclear doctrine as well as domestic issues, like the price of butter.

Ukraine collects vast war data trove to train AI models

1)  Analysis project has 2 million hours of battlefield video
2) Experts say large data set needed for AI systems to learn from and
3) Ukraine and Russia already using AI on the battlefield

KYIV, Dec 20 (Reuters) - As the future of warfare pivots towards artificial intelligence, Ukraine is sitting on a valuable resource: millions of hours of footage from drones which can be used to train AI models to make decisions on battlefield.

AI has been deployed by both sides on the battlefield during Russia's invasion of Ukraine to identify targets, scanning images far quicker than a human can. Oleksandr Dmitriev, founder of OCHI, a non-profit Ukrainian digital system which centralises and analyses video feeds from over 15,000 drone crews working on the frontlines, told Reuters his system had collected 2 million hours, or 228 years, of battlefield video from drones since 2022.

We are talking about dozens of units of robotic and unmanned equipment simultaneously on a small section of the front,” a spokesperson for the 13th National Guard Brigade explained.

It was an impressive technological feat—and a worrying sign of weakness on the part of overstretched Ukrainian forces. Unmanned ground vehicles in particular suffer profound limitations, and still can’t fully replace human infantry.

That13th National Guard Brigade even needed to replace all human beings in a ground assault speaks to how few people the brigade compared to Russian units it’s fighting. 13th National Guard Brigade defends a five-mile stretch around town of Hlyboke, south of Ukraine-Russia border. It’s holding back a force of no fewer 4-Russian regiments. That’s 2,000 Ukrainians versus 6,000 or so Russians, manpower ratio is roughly the same all along 800-mile front line 34-month wider war on Ukraine. Russian troops still greatly outnumber Ukrainian troops, despite the Russians suffering around two-times

Putin: ABC News’ Ian Pannell reports on what the Russian leader said Thursday during his annual marathon press conference. Reuters.

LONDON -- Two (2) Russian airports were put under flight restrictions early Saturday after authorities alleged an attack by Ukrainian drones, according to state-run news agencies.

The state-owned RIA Novosti agency reported that Russia's Federal Air Transport Agency announced a temporary block on landing and takeoff at Kazan International Airport (about 2000 km from Ukraine) and restrictions at Gagarin Airport in the city of Saratov -- both in the southwest of the country.

Kazan is more than 600 miles from closest Ukrainian-controlled territory. Saratov is more than 350 miles from Ukrainian-held territory.
Press service of head of Tatarstan region -- of which Kazan is the largest city -- said authorities recorded eight drones attacking the city, with no reported casualties. "One was at an industrial enterprise, one was over a river and six were at a residential area," the press service said, as quoted according to state-run Tass news agency.

New technology behind Ukraine’s new “rocket-drones” is blurring the line between drones and cruise missiles.

Ukraine has turbo-charged its long-distance unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), making “rocket-drones” to compete with cruise missiles or save the trouble of asking for more Western-made ranged weapons. Zelensky’s admin has been showing off latest results, with videos of Peklo & Palianytsia missile-drones, which Ukrainian soldiers have begun deploying.

“Rocket-drone” project has become a key goal for Zelensky in 2025. In Nov, told Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s parliamentary he wanted to see Ukraine produce 30,000 long-distance drones & 3,000 “cruise missiles or missile-drones” over next year.

Ukraine uses all-drone ground attack force in historic first - 2 hrs ago

It was just a matter of time before the armed forces of Ukraine notched another robotic warfare historical moment. For the first time since mankind first went to war, an all-unmanned ground attack team took on and completed a mission. The operation took place near the village of Lyptsi in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region.

Ukraine’s Khartia Brigade, from country’s national guard, conducted strike using dozens of robotic systems kitted out in various ways. First-person view (FPV) drones provided aerial views of the battlefield, while unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) took care of things on the ground. Tongue

A spokesperson with the Khartia Brigade said the attack successfully eliminated Russian positions without involvement of infantry. The Institute for the Study of War said the operation marked a significant milestone in Ukraine’s use of advanced military tech. The institute said this attack highlighted the lengths Ukraine is going to deal with its lack of manpower. From the outset of the war almost 3 years ago, Ukraine faced a huge deficit in munitions and manpower. By necessity, it has used unmanned systems in all sorts of creative ways to conduct its asymmetric warfare against Russia. Sleepy

In 2025, Ukraine’s iron ore exports may decline by 15% – to 27 million tonnes. This is stated in GMK Center’s article ‘Prospects for the Ukrainian steel industry in 2025’. Low ore prices and rising production costs are among the main reasons for the projected decline. In 2024, the price of iron ore at $95 per tonne was already making exports to China unprofitable. High dollar inflation in Ukraine and rising electricity costs, which account for up to 50% of production costs, further complicate the situation.

Producers face a significant financial burden. For example, one of the leading companies reported an 11% increase in its cost of production in dollars in first half of 2024. Electricity prices & transport problems continue to weigh on the industry.
