Germany has taken a decisive step against Russia’s illicit oil trade by seizing a tanker from Putin’s so-called shadow fleet, marking a significant escalation in Western crackdown on sanctions evasion. Recently, German customs officials boarded & confiscated a Panama-flagged tanker Eventin, a vessel long suspected of being part of Russia’s covert maritime network used to bypass Western sanctions.

The Eventin, carrying nearly 100,000 tons of Russian oil valued at over 40 million Euro, was officially added to the European Union’s sanctions list in February. The German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock framed the seizure as a direct response to Russia’s cynical use of “rusty, dangerous tankers” that also violate sanctions & also pose environmental security risks to European waters, in this case, tanker became immobile suffering an engine failure & started drifting toward the German coast.

Zelensky's remarks came a day after details of a new alleged draft of a mineral agreement between Kyiv and Washington emerged. The Financial Times reported on March 27 that the latest version of the agreement proposed by the U.S. includes terms that would grant Washington unprecedented control over Ukraine's natural resources through a joint investment fund.

Beyond the new Third Army Corps, Ukraine is restructuring its military into 18 individual army corps, unifying five to seven brigades under a single command, covering extensive frontlines dozens of kilometers wide and deep. Each integrating intelligence, logistics, and specialized support units, the corps enhances firepower and flexibility by assigning dedicated artillery, air defense, reconnaissance, electronic warfare, and engineering units. With 20,000 personnel & 900 heavy vehicles, corps HQ will be able to directly control front sectors, coordinate large-scale op more effectively than a independent brigades can. New Corps commanders benefit from superior communication, shared intelligence, enabling rapid decision-making, large-scale offensive & defensive op & rapid, precise responses, sending reinforcements to locations they are most necessary. This structure turns localized engagements into coordinated op, maximizing battlefield impact and advancing strategic objectives.
Specifically, allowed Ukrainian forces to eliminate several weaknesses Russians were exploiting to great effect. For eg, in Borova sector, Russians exploited the individualistic nature of Ukrainian brigade to overwhelm 1-brigade, launching attacks to pin down others & find gaps in area of responsibility between 2-brigades allowed them to greatly expand funnel to Oskil River at Pischane to the south, weaknesses are now eliminated. Ukrainian frontline will form a much more solid line of defense for Russians to expend their reserves against.
