The US Bradley Fighting Vehicle is one of those American-made weapons systems — along with the AH-64 Apache helicopter gunship and B-2 Spirit "Stealth Bomber" — that were developed in the 1980s, battle-proven in the 1990s, and remain in service to this day. Bradley Fighting Vehicle Is Starting to Show Its Age through some major growing pains — either due to cost overruns and/or reliability issues — that generated public controversy and cast doubt on whether the things would ever become viable in the first place. (Hey, hindsight is always 20/20, right?).

Bradley made it this far and what future holds for this venerable vehicle. A 5-Star General's Namesake. As students of WWII & Cold War history will recognize, Bradley vehicle currently manufactured by BAE Systems — was named for Gen. Omar Nelson Bradley (1893 - 1981), the WWII U.S. Army officer who rose in rank as General of the Army, earned a 5th star, and became first Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff, serving in latter position fm Aug-1949 to Aug-1953.

As well-known personality clashes between the puritanical Bradley and the brash, colorfully profane Gen. George Smith Patton Jr, one wonders if ol' Omar is rolling over in his grave at the thought of getting a mere infantry fighting vehicle named after himself whilst Patton had four different main battle tanks bearing his own namesake. But I digress. Bradley was intended as replacement for U.S.l M113 carrier that entered service in 1960. Conceptualization of the M113's replacement actually began in 1963, but to make a long story short, it went through equivalent".

Bradley Fighting Vehicle entered production in 1981 became a replacement for M113. This considered a more powerful & faster vehicle than M113,  better suspension increases speed on off-road terrain. Within just a few years after Bradley rolled into service, its survivability and combat effectiveness became targets of concern.

North Korean Missile That Struck Ukraine: Only One Korean Character Remained Inscribed After Attempts to Conceal the Origin...Wreckage of a supposedly North Korean KN-23/KN-24 missile found in Kharkiv after a russian missile attack.

Conflict Armament Research confirms russia used a ballistic missile, manufactured in DPRK, to attack the city of Kharkiv in Ukraine

International organization Conflict Armament Research has published a detailed report on the debris of the missile that targeted Kharkiv, a major city in northeast Ukraine, during the russian aerial attack on January 2nd, 2024.

Analysis of missile wreckage indicates this weapon was made in North Korea; its provision to russia means violation of UN Security Council resolutions regarding military cooperation with DPRK.

A reminder, on January 4th, U.S. National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications, John Kirby, officially stated Russia had used ballistic missiles from North Korea against Ukraine. Kyiv, in turn, neither confirmed nor refuted the information, saying the investigation was ongoing.

The missile to be either KN-23 or KN-24 type. Note that those are the designations assigned by the West, while the original Korean name is unknown, although believed to be Hwasong-11A and Hwasong-11B. Report draws attention to the distinct jet vane actuators that adjust the flight trajectory of the missile midair.

On a note from Defense Express, this is quite a difficult technology because the actuators must work properly in extreme temperatures. Considering that all tests of KN-23 and KN-24 were successful from the get-go, it raises justified suspicions that Pyongyang had received ready-made technology from a third party.

Ukrainian military observer Kostiantyn Mashovets stated Russian forces were advancing along Kolosova & Lermontov streets. However, ISW has not observed visual confirmation of such an advance.
Russian and Ukrainian sources reported positional battles were ongoing to the northwest of Avdiivka near settlements of Novobakhmutivka and Stepove; near Avdiivka Coke plant in the northwest; to the west of Avdiivka.

Military analysts also pointed out that Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, Commander of the Tavriia Operational Strategic Group, and Oleksandr Shtupun, spokesman for the Joint Press Centre of the Tavriia Defence Forces, stated that Russian forces are preparing to increase activity on the Avdiivka front and have concentrated over 40,000 personnel there.

Tarnavskyi said Russian forces have not carried out airstrikes on the Tavriia front in the last two days.

Ukraine will take steps to research, publicize, and protect the histories of Ukrainians living in parts of modern-day Russia that have been historically inhabited by Ukrainians, according to a decree signed by President Volodymyr Zelensky on Jan. 22. He announced he had signed the decree during his address on Unity Day, a national holiday celebrated on Jan. 22 that marks the unification of the Ukrainian People's Republic and the Western Ukrainian People's Republic in 1919 into one independent country.

The decree "On Territories of the Russian Federation Historically Inhabited by Ukrainians" stipulates that govt should cooperate with international experts to create plan "to preserve national identity of Ukrainians" specific territories of what is now Russia.
The decree listed the regions of Kuban, a historical region to the east of the Crimean Peninsula, Starodubshchyna, to the north of Chernihiv, and northern and eastern Slobozhanshchyna. Also known as Sloboda Ukraine, Slobozhanshchyna was a significant & semi-autonomous region under Tsarist rule that extended across what is now northeastern Ukraine, predominantly Sumy, Kharkiv, and Luhansk oblasts, and southwestern Russia. Krasnodar Krai covers most of what once Kuban, Starodubshchyna now lies predominantly in Bryansk Oblast.

The "true history of ethnic Ukrainians in the lands historically inhabited by them within the borders of the Russian Federation" should also be included in educational textbooks, according to the decree. Clapping

As Russia’s full-scale war approaches the two-year mark, Ukraine is headed for economic turbulence as vital external financial help hangs in the balance. As Ukrainian govt spends all of its revenue on military, it relies on international aid from its Western partners. The budget deficit is expected to reach $44 billion and Kyiv is hoping to cover it with both domestic borrowing and financial aid from abroad.

The Finance Ministry says the country will need around $37 billion in external financing next year, a slight decrease from the previously expected $41 billion. The total has been trending downward as the ministry ostensibly looks to cut costs where it can.

Ukraine’s needs will likely look closer to somewhere between $6-6.5 billion per month in 2024 to cover expenses, according to a former Ukrainian lawmaker with knowledge of current budgeting issues who asked not to be named due to the sensitivity around this issue.

Ukrainian officials meet relatives of POWs who Russia claims were in crashed Il-76, say no evidence to confirm that. officials meet relatives of POWs who Russia claims were in crashed Il-76, say no evidence to confirm that.Ukrainian military intelligence (HUR) chief Kyrylo Budanov during a meeting with the relatives of Ukrainian prisoners of war who Russia claims were on the Il-76 transport plane that crashed over Russia's Belgorod Oblast, on Jan. 26, 2024. (Ukraine’s Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War/Facebook)

Ukraine’s Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War said on Jan. 26 that during the planned exchange of POWs two days earlier Moscow was to return to Ukraine 65 people from one of the lists Russian propagandists shared after the crash of Il-76 transport plane in Russia's Belgorod, confirmation came after Russian propagandist Margarita Simonyan published a list of Ukrainian POWs who were allegedly on board the aircraft on Jan. 24. The headquarters did not specify whether this was the mentioned list.

According to the HQ Secretary. Ukraine’s repeated requests to share list of POWs Russia claims were on plane, Moscow responded, referring to one of the lists previously published on Russian propaganda sources.
On Jan. 26, Usov, Ukrainian intelligence (HUR) chief Kyrylo Budanov, other military & law enforcement officials met relatives of prisoners of war mentioned in the list. After watching videos allegedly from crash site published by Russian propagandа sources, family members "did not see any special signs on the body fragments that indicate that these are their relatives."

"We are collecting and thoroughly analyzing all available information on this matter from many sources. So far, no information indicates that the plane could have carried that many people,” Budanov noted. He said that Moscow’s version that 65 Ukrainian POWs could have been on the board of the Il-76 for the exchange "still raises many questions."

The day earlier, Ukraine's Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said Russia’s list included prisoners of war who had already been swapped b4. Representatives of the HQ promised they would inform relatives about POWs’ fate as soon as they have reliable info.
Ukraine's military intelligence confirmed that a prisoner exchange had been planned for Jan. 24 but added that the Russian side had not informed the Ukrainian side about the need to ensure airspace safety over Belgorod before the plane crash.

President Volodymyr Zelensky called for an international investigation into the Il-76 crash.

Kuleba says Ukraine will be able to ensure control over its skies this year. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has said control over Ukrainian skies this year is quite realistic if the country receives a sufficient number of F-16 fighter jets, drones, electronic warfare equipment and missiles.
He said this at a joint press conference with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis in Kyiv on Saturday, January 27, Ukrinform news.

"Everything is realistic, and this is what the war taught us. If we get the F-16, if we have our own combat and reconnaissance drones - this is the importance of our cooperation with Lithuania - if we have EW and missiles, we will control our skies. All this is achievable," Kuleba said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday published his income over a two-year period, as he looks to promote transparency as part of Kyiv's push for European Union membership.

Ukraine formally started the screening process to begin talks over its future membership of the EU on Thursday, and faces stringent conditions to increase transparency and root out corruption. Zelenskyy has called for all public officials to disclose their incomes, while U.S. and other allies supporting Ukraine's war effort have sought assurances about the country's efforts. According to the declaration, the president and his family members received 10.8 million hryvnias ($286,168) in 2021, the last year before Russia's invasion of Ukraine, down 12 million hryvnias from the previous year. The 2021 also included income from the sale of around $142,000 in government bonds.

Blinken warns Ukraine gains in doubt if no US aid.  US Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned on Jan 29 that Ukraine’s gains over two years of fighting were all in doubt without new US funding, as Nato’s chief visited to lobby Congress. Tens of billions of dollars in US aid has been sent to Ukraine since the invasion in February 2022, but Republican lawmakers have grown reluctant to keep supporting Kyiv, saying it lacks a clear end game as the fighting against President Putin’s forces grinds on.

“Without it, simply put, everything that Ukrainians achieved and that we’ve helped them achieve will be in jeopardy,” Mr Blinken told a joint news conference with Mr Stoltenberg. “Absent supplemental, we’re going to be sending a strong and wrong message to all of our adversaries, we are not serious to defense freedom, the defense of democracy,” he said.

Ukraine Set To Become ‘First Country’ To Use GLSDBs In A War; US To Deliver 1st Shipment Soon.

Sources familiar with the discussions revealed Kyiv is set to receive first shipment of Ground-Launched Small Diameter Bombs (GLSDB), a long-range weapon manufactured by Boeing, not yet part of the US inventory.

The impending delivery of Boeing’s Ground Launched Small Diameter Bomb (GLSDB) comes following successful tests of the long-range precision bomb, with deployment scheduled by January 31. “It gives them a deeper strike capability they haven’t had, it complements their long-range fire arsenal,” the US official said. “It’s just an extra arrow in the quiver that’s gonna allow them to do more.”

The GLSDB, capable of striking targets up to 150 kilometers away, underwent rigorous testing at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida before being cleared for deployment. The testing phase culminated in the firing of six GLSDB units on January 16 at Eglin Air Force Base. Pentagon is on brink of delivering Ground Launched Small Diameter Bomb (GLSDB) to the Ukrainian military, a move that is set to reshape the dynamics of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Russia Ukraine war: ICJ finds Moscow violated terrorism and anti-discrimination treaties

The ethnic Tatar minority in Crimea, including by banning the Mejlis, a body representing Crimean Tatars. The ruling said Ukraine had not proven that the ban on the Mejlis was an example of racial discrimination.

However, ICJ had already ordered Russia to lift the ban on the body in 2017, a ruling ignored by Moscow. The court again found Russia in breach of this order. It also said Russia had violated a previous ruling to avoid making relations with Ukraine worse by launching a massive war against its neighbour.

One of the leaders of the Ukrainian legal team, Anton Korynevych, called Wednesday's ruling "important" because it found Russia had violated international law, "in particular both conventions under which we made our application".

Most of the seats on the Russian side were empty. Only a diplomat and a member of the Russian legal team turned up right before the ruling was announced. In contrast, the Ukrainian side was full.

This week, the court will issue another ruling on a case brought by Ukraine, accusing Russia of wrongly using the 1948 Genocide Convention to justify its full-scale invasion in 2022.

ICJ rulings are legally binding but cannot be enforced by the court itself.
