Seems like He is not confident of the 4G leaders...

For last 40 years kept asking for strong mandate but only to F...k the citizens big time and bigger time each GE... Which in power doesn't want mandate and more power?? Lol
And don't need to question if opposition is going to be better. Instead account for whether ruling is truly doing a good job. From few in society that needs to be given welfare to a nation of people taking gst rebates and welfare...

I have to agree with him, whether is economic development, foreign policies,
and valuation of asset is mist of changing. It is more difficult than any time in past 40years.
Some 3G likely stay longer although their experience is also not enough or relevant.

They implement more economic pain to adjust to the world so that citizens then have to pay more n more for a stronger S'pore

There is no right or wrong decisions.
One only has to bear the consequences that one makes

Hmm... Where to start? The article/interview makes a number of points:
* World is more complex and dangerous due to US & China geopolitical rivalry - Yes but nothing new, it's all over the news for the past 5 years.
* As a result of the world being more dangerous, PAP needs to win big in elections, otherwise other countries will not take it seriously - Where's the evidence of that? Is there any reason to believe that China and US will not take Singapore seriously if PAP wins 60% of the parliamentary seats instead of the current 90+%? That makes no sense.
Also even if the 0.1% probability of the WP taking over PAP really materializes, the G2 deal with countries all over the world from the ultra democratic referendum driven Switzerland to absolute monarchies like Saudi and North Korea. Again is there any evidence G2 treats countries with seriousness depending on their internal political dynamics?
* US has strengthened its relations with Taiwan - No, in fact it has weakened its commitments to Taiwan considerably. Sure, there's no shortage of news bluster from the US of how much they love Taiwan, but ignoring media hype the US has in fact moved away from its long held strategic ambiguity of coming to Taiwan's aid militarily to strategic clarity on the military role it will play i.e. US will only serve as a weapons dealer selling arms to Taiwan ("helping Taiwan to defend itself") and has no intention to fight a war with China. This has been repeatedly reinforced by Biden, Blinken, Sullivan and Austin on multiple occasions.
Recently even the arms sold are getting from bad to worse. The Taiwanese need real stuff like F-35, Ageis Destroyers, hypersonic missiles, EW systems to hold off China, instead the US is now pushing them to buy light arms like old howitzers, manpads, anti-tank bazookas and small portable hand held drones on the pretext that since this works for Ukraine then it should defeat China as well.
* Absence of any real insight on what to do - Other than raising several Captain Obvious talking points, a half-baked justification on why PAP need to continue to win big in order to be taken seriously and a coffeeshop uncle level discussion of US-Taiwan relationship and US-China war, his silence on what the 4G should do is rather conspicuous. He's like those irritating colleagues we see in office who during meeting talk and repeat what everybody already knows, drama how difficult the situation is and then end the presentation without a single useful solution worth considering.

It is an unfortunate statement for 4G because other Govt in the world will not inherit dangerous and challenging times. Is it possible or a mere silly remark?

I think that Indian successor should be appreciative that HC stays around to ensure that the handing over is done smoothly. Most people will quickly hand over and disappeared leaving the new successor with no guidance. This is a very important institution and cannot afford any fuxk up. I think HC was also under the eyes of Lim Kim San when she became CEO of TS.....
