Was he told that Jesus would die for his sins? No, he wasn't. And yet, he was saved according to the Gospel.
So apparently, you don't have to believe Jesus's death will pay for your sins in order to be saved, like that thief.
And also, you don't have to believe Jesus is God in order to be saved, like in Acts 2.

Peter understood that Jesus died for our sins, but it simply wasn't something that was ever communicated to the congregation... as I mentioned before, the Jews would have walked away if it had been....

46:9 that he does not know what will happen to him is in relation to his salvation. Muhammad wasn't saying that he didn't know what would happen to him during his earthly ministrybut was claiming to be uncertain regarding what Allah would do to him in the afterlife
