What made him convert? It would be interesting to know the reason why he became a Christian but sadly, we don't know.  And no, he is not an Imam, not even the fingernail of an Imam. 

When I gave you Abdullah bin Salaam, he told people why he converted. At first, he was only receiving news of a Prophet in Makkah, 300+ km away. Even then, he was already anxious. Remember, they were expecting a prophet to come in that area and they have been waiting for over 500 years. So I can imagine the excitement he had upon hearing the news the first time. His faith was already halfway. It went full when Muhammad صلي الله عليه وسلم arrived. That's the gist of it. We can go into detail if you like.
