Meritocracy is a sometimes a dangerous notion when drilled into people . Why?
People who believe they climb up on their own ability can believe those who are down and out deserve their suffering
Remember when you climb up it is never due to your own ability alone. Someone drives the bus to take you to school...some one prepres the food you eat, someone cleans the environment so you can live in it.
A person succeeds due to efforts of others. He should feel privileged he has a path to walk up the mountain of success paved by others.
No other govt keep repeating they are MERITOCRACY like the PAP govt. Because it is a hazy idea often used by those who feel entitled to justify their oversized pay and the inequality around them
For this reason good leaders around the world do not use this word MERITOCRACY to describe what they aspire to do.
Singapore has become the most UNEQUAL society among developed nations. It is in fact a plutocracy where govt goes towards attracting the wealthy with a low tax regime and pro business laws tolerating a rise in inequality and poverty among it's citizens.
Everytime I hear a PAP leader utter the word meritocracy I am reminded of what they have done ...
I, being poor, have only my dreams; I have spread my dreams under your feet; Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

Didnt know you also know I Ching?

Just like more and more cameras in the street to ensure law and order,
Or more and more ppl pray to the God for miraculous assistance
Is it good or bad when they keep uttering meritocracy frequency?
“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind"
