Over the weekend my uncle who migrated to Australia came with his son back to ask me and my mom to have dinner with them. I became very angry with him during the dinner. Here's why.

All his children completed university in Australia all 4. He asked me how come I didn't go university. I told him Singapore had limited places for Singaporeans in university during my time so I did not go. Then he show us pictures of his home with swimming pool garden and a long white fence. Talk and talk then asked us why we never upgraded from 2 room flat. I told him Singapore housing is very expensive and 2 room flat is big enough for me and my mom.

Then he went on to say he just bought a car for his youngest son who just finished his university in RMIT. Initially I heard wrongly and thought he said MIT but got R in front. I told him since I got my license I have never driven a car in Singapore because public transport is so good.

As the dinner dragged on, I  realised he was showing off to us his life in Australia is very good. WTF.

Australia is not even a good meritocracy.
It's just some backwater always changing govt....cannot compare with Singapore.

Of cos must boast lah. That's the very nature of humans! Else why do you think people want to buy bigger houses, expensive cars and luxury goods. I don't approve of it but that's life. I've NEVER seen anyone in my life before who has the money, or has a good life, but did not show off. Get real.

In the true spirit of it, I don't think anyone is against it. The only difference is at implementation and often the so call based on merit is arguable from the many episodes we witness of the ruling party.

Why WKS got re-employed after he got out of govt? While he was gracefully released on grounds or retirement he did not do well when he was a DPM handling MHA. So why is he qualified to be placed as chairman thereafter?

Why Talk Cock about Meritocracy

when PAP failed to uphold the principle

about fairness, opportunity, and the promise of social mobility

for own citizens??

Is it another lame excuse to import more FTs?

US and Aus?

You know what is sunk cost fallacy. They make a decision they become bias to show that decision is correct one. No good also have to show off it is good.

Look at US guns everywhere. Anytime can get killed. You know once you lose your life you cannot get it back. In Singapore we do not have to fear for our safety. US is a horrible place. High crime, homeless people everywhere, drug problem, clueless lousy govt. Poor or non existent public transport ...go everywhere have to drive car...that is really shit.

Singaporeans who risk their lives to go to such a place clearly made a bad and stupid decisions. Many are due to job posting so they have no choice if they want to keep their jobs. But they risk the lives of their families when they take their families there.

In Singapore we don't have to worry about someone take a gun to shoot you. If you need to worry about thus everyone life is like hell...okay.

To compare Singapore with these places is like heaven and hell.  I think people pay me money also I will not go and step foot on USA. What is there to gain? Their movies and music we can just streams and watch in Singapore ...no need to go there and take risk.

I, being poor, have only my dreams; I have spread my dreams under your feet; Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

Meritocracy is a sometimes a dangerous notion when drilled into people . Why?

People who believe they climb up on their own ability can believe those who are down and out deserve their suffering

Remember when you climb up it is never due to your own ability alone. Someone drives the bus to take you to school...some one prepres the food you eat, someone cleans the environment so you can live in it.
A person succeeds due to efforts of others. He should feel privileged he has a path to walk up the mountain of success paved by others.

No other govt keep repeating they are MERITOCRACY like the PAP govt. Because it is a hazy idea often used by those who feel entitled to justify their oversized pay and the inequality around them

For this reason good leaders around the world do not use this word MERITOCRACY to describe what they aspire to do.

Singapore has become the most UNEQUAL society among developed nations. It is in fact a plutocracy where govt goes towards attracting the wealthy with a low tax regime and pro business laws tolerating a rise in inequality and poverty among it's citizens.

Everytime I hear a PAP leader utter the word meritocracy I am reminded of what they have done ...

I, being poor, have only my dreams; I have spread my dreams under your feet; Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
