Haha. You all reminisce about the past when you became disillusioned with the present. The mere mention of those household names recalls
memories of the hey day of the M'sia Cup competition and Asean championship. For the old faithful, the Kallang Roar has a familiar ring to it.
The National Stadium was their stomping ground, a haunt where they would stomp their feet and applaud their favourite local players for their
heroics on the football field. To the man in the middle who made a bad call, the fanatic supporters would shout "Referee kayu!"

While the household names of yesteryear evoke memories of a happier time and a purportedly stronger national squad that was a force to be
reckoned with in this part of the world, there's widespread disillusionment with the present national team that seems to lack oomph. Not a
lot of people today know the names of the players in the current outfit.

Comparisons between the players of the different eras have been made, and questions have arisen as to whether yesterday's favourite sons,
if they were born in this age, could be counted on to deliver the goods where the present bunch has repeatedly failed. Well, your guess is
as good as mine. S'pore's football fortunes and morale seem to be at their lowest ebb, along with its sinking world ranking. When things hit
rock bottom, they'll make a U-turn, says the law of gravity in reverse. Cool

Football fans are an unforgiving lot and won't hesitate to call for heads to roll when their team has underperformed or come to grief. Rarely do we see a FAS big wig being subjected to verbal abuse. It's a slap in the face. This erstwhile acting president was verbally abused after the national team was whitewashed 7-0 in an disastrous outing across the causeway.

Usually, the coach becomes the whipping boy for all of the team's failures or poor performances. He'll be the first on the chopping board. Coaches live and die by their results. Next to be singled out for criticism are the players who played poorly. That's the way the cookie crumbles.
