Singapore 'making progress' on COVID-19 front, but PM Lee warns about potential 'surprises'
Mr Lee also made a comparison of the COVID-19 situation between Singapore and Italy, whose population is 11 times bigger.
To date, Italy has recorded about 4.7 million cases and 132,000 deaths from COVID-19. Comparing this on a same scale in Singapore, Mr Lee pointed out that it is about 11,000 to 12,000 deaths.
As of Oct 31, Singapore's death toll stands at 407.

Fker compared with the worse Italy, which EVERYONE knows were the first to be caught on the wrong foot in an environment filled with European stupidity amidst the anti-China (Wuhan) outburst at that time BUT more importantly is this.....ITALY HAS MAJORITY OF ITS POPULATION THAT IS AGING, that means higher percentage of its folks are above 60 years old than SG!
This is clear example of selective use of data to fit a certain ulterior narrative, very insidious and conniving

If I'm in Italy I will never speak ill of the host country. Many of the western society did not do anything to help the aged but let them get infected and die. It certainly helps with their pension payout and social cost.
If sg on pension system, likely may be the same we never know. But the aged typically support ruling party so it's important to take care of the aged here.
In any case, one death is too many. A fight against virus and diseases cannot be measured against a worst off comparison but to quickly learn from those that do well and mimic them soonest possible. I think the bearings have to be set right for sure...

heard over the radio as he compares the death rates with Italy, SG should expect 11K to mati if we wants to fully open up like Italy but will try to keep to minimum. currently total death is 440, if 11K is the quota, wow way to go man. God bless SG.

It is grossly unfair to compare Italy and Singapore, cos we are a small nation with 5+ million on this island. Having said that, it is disturbing to know that we had recently 3,000+ infections and double digit deaths......

Why expect surprises when he said that covid has turned less dangerous?

total Singaporean is approx 4 million not 5+ million.
which is 20% less of total population.
Those death were believed to be locals
we are riding this endemic at the expense of our old folks.

The stupid underlying condition excuse is really a piss off.
Eg. when one got into an accident and died can also classified as due to underlying condition, nothing to do with the accident right? cause its not the accident that cause the death, instead it is the underlying condition that causes the heart failure of the victim. lol

Perhaps MOH needs to clarify what is considered as underlying medical condition/illness....

Old Man so silly.
Why compare with Italy that has nearly 60 Million in population where, most of them died last year before they were vaccinated?
Might as well compare his body producing dead skin cells vs his own grandson.
Why do we need 5 Mayors and 80 PAP Ministers?

Yes. At least we know what kind of medical condition stand higher chance of triggering the severity. Cause Covid virus is the trigger, not the underlying condition
