In 2006, Yanukovych, then a opposition, had insisted, Holodomor of 1932 to 1933, a famine claimed lives of 4mil Ukrainians, was a tragedy, not a premeditated genocide orchestrated by Josef Stalin and his regime. Now Russia’s war against Ukraine continues to cause unspeakable, unimaginable suffering. By word “tragedy” is firmly installed in lexicon of the war has become almost a cliche. Journalists record tragedies in Ukraine in many heartbreaking manifestations. Marking anniversary of war in Feb 2023, U.S.A. President Joe Biden said: “This war never a necessity; it’s a tragedy.” The label is liberally applied to every development in this war. Putin's Russia’s breach of the Kakhovka dam on Jun 6, is a humanitarian and ecological disaster it caused “latest tragedy.” Putin no mention in his speech of the hundreds of thousands of Russian soldiers been killed or wounded, or the repeated spilling over of the conflict onto home territory, seen dramatically in Saturday's Ukrainian attack on the city of Belgorod, 34 km from the border. Associated Press headline.

Russia’s / Ukraine’s war certainly don't boosted their confidence at home, number of Russian soldiers killed in Ukraine remains a closely guarded secret. Fact is in hundred of thousand been kill and numbers would hit 500,000 in 2025.

Russian field armies—together possessing 40,000 troops & thousands of vehicles?—attacked Ukrainian garrison in Avdiivka, just northwest of Russian main attack, a third annual winter offensive in its 22-mth wider war on Ukraine. And more accurately, it's failing along as Russian operation around Avdiivka is ongoing but after advancing a short distance a mile or so north & south of city last mth, Russian 2nd & 41st Combined Arms Armies at best has stalled. Some analysts believe they actually are losing ground around the village of Stepove on Avdiivka’s northern flank. It’s no secret that Moscow’s new strategy is to outlast Kyiv—to win a war of attrition. But Russians can’t win a war of attrition if they continue to lose many more vehicles and troops than the Ukrainians lose.

In that context, the battle for Avdiivka has been a disaster for Russia. It’s exactly this kind of fight the Kremlin can’t afford if its goal is to grind away Ukraine’s military strength. Around Avdiivka, it’s the Russians who are getting ground down.

Ukrainian sources described the strikes as a response to the 29 December Russian attack at killing 31 innocent Ukraine folks and many others, the is Putin largest series of attacking and missile strikes on Ukraine since the start of the full-scale invasion.

Russian Defence Ministry said Russian forces intercepted 32 Ukrainian drones in Bryansk, Oryol, Kursk and Moscow oblasts on the night of 29-30 December. But not, as
Ukrainian law enforcement agencies told media Ukrainian strikes on 30 December were aimed at Russian military facilities near Undecided Belgorod. cryingAnalysts note that the discrepancy between Russian and Ukrainian figures may indicate Ukrainian forces hit many of their intended targets.

Ukrainian forces reportedly struck Kremniy EL plant in Bryansk is Russia's 2nd-largest microelectronics producer, with 90 percent of its products reportedly components of Russian military equipment and systems.

Geolocation footage published on 30 December shows explosions over city of Bryansk. Moreover, Russian Ministry said Russian air defences shot down 12 Ukrainian multiple-launch missile system missiles in Belgorod Oblast on 29 December and several more Ukrainian MLRS missiles near Belgorod during the day on 30 December.

Ukraine did not submit a request to Turkey to allow two minesweepers into the Black Sea, by UK transferring to Ukrainian side, Spokesman for the Naval Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) Answering the question whether Ukraine planned to use these minesweepers until the end of active hostilities, Pletenchuk said: "Navy did not leave a request for passage of these ships to the Republic of Turkey, firstly. Secondly, including operation of the Montreux Convention, there is no other option to expect, in principle, it should not have been done."

"Accordingly, I can only confirm that we had no such intentions," he said during a telethon on Wednesday. At the same time, the spokesman said Turkey also does not allow Russian warships to enter the Black Sea. "In this sense, there is absolute parity on Turkey's part. And there are no reasons for 'treason', as we like to say," he said. Earlier, Center for Countering Disinformation within Office of President of Turkey stated statement of some media, "the minesweepers donated to Ukraine by Great Britain were allowed to pass through Turkish straits into the Black Sea" is not true.

A study of list of decrees published on Russia’s official website by investigative media site Mediazona has revealed 49.5% of 997 decrees signed by Putin last year were classified as “secret.” This is highest number of undisclosed documents since record for secret decrees was set@47% in 2001 at height of 2nd Chechen War.

Presidential decrees in Russia are numbered sequentially at the start of each year, with the numbers for classified documents being omitted. Mediazona said it calculated the percentage of such decrees in 2023 by simply counting the number of missing documents from publicly available records. Media outlet also noted that the number of decrees issued last year remained virtually unchanged since 2022, total of 997, against 996 in previous year. In 2022, when Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine, share of classified presidential decrees reached 45%, according to Mediazona.

The last time a Ukrainian agent sneaked onto a Russian airfield to attack helicopter. Pskov is 500 miles from Ukraine. The Ukraine has other methods striking Russian air bases from hundreds of miles away—drones and missiles—but direct sabotage might be most embarrassing for the Russians. Where was air base security?. It’s obvious why Ukrainians target Chelyabinsk its Su-34s supersonic fighter-bombers. A Ukrainian Saboteur Traveled 900 Miles to A Snowy Russian Airfield And, In The Dead Of Night, Lit A Russian Sukhoi Fighter-Bomber On Fire. Ukrainian agent slipped into Russia, traveled 900 miles to Chelyabinsk airbase just north of Kazakhstan, sneaked onto snow-covered tarmac under cover of darkness & lit a fire on a Russian air force Sukhoi Su-34 fighter-bomber. It’s not first act of sabotage by Ukrainian agent inside Russia, but it might be the most daring. And it may have cost Russian air force yet another increasingly endangered Su-34s.

Intelligence directorate claimed twin-engine, two-seat Su-34 belonged to 21st Composite Aviation Division, a known operator of this type. “The reasons for the plane catching fire are being clarified,” the directorate quipped.

The last time Ukrainian agent sneaked onto a Russian airfield, near Pskov in October 2022, it was to blow up a Kamov Ka-52 attack helicopter. Pskov is 500 miles from the border with Ukraine.
Ukraine has other methods of striking Russian air bases from hundreds of miles away—drones and missiles—but direct sabotage might be the most embarrassing for the Russians. Where was air base security? The Russians know they’re at war, right? It’s obvious why the Ukrainians would target Chelyabinsk and its Su-34s. The supersonic fighter-Su-34s fly nearly daily missions lobbing 25-mile-range satellite-guided glide-bombs at Ukrainian positions. The powerful glide-bombs are “one of the biggest fears” among Ukrainian troops, according to Ukrainian soldier Olexandr Solon'ko.

Ukrainian forces are doing everything they can to shoot down every Su-34 they can. Rapidly repositioning long-range air-defenses in southern Ukraine last month, the Ukrainian air force shot down four Su-34s in the span of a week. If the sabotaged jet is a write-off, the Russians might be down to 125 or so Su-34s out of a pre-war fleet of no more than 150.

Kyiv 'cannot confirm yet' if Russia used North Korean missiles. (Jan 5) it was so far unable to confirm that Russia had used North Korean missiles to attack after Washington accused Moscow of using weapons provided by Pyongyang.

US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby described the deliveries as a "significant and concerning escalation" but Kyiv hours after the announcement Ukraine had yet to independently find evidence to support the claims. "So far, we have no information that such missiles have been used. The United States made a statement to that effect," Ukraine's air force spokesman Yuriy Ignat told state media.

"So experts will study the wreckage, and then we can say whether this is a fact or not. I can't confirm it yet," he added. In their grinding war of attrition, which the Kremlin had hoped would conclude in just days, Kyiv and Moscow have struggled to refill stockpiles of artillery shells, drones and long-range missiles.

Pyongyang-supplied missiles with ranges of900km were fired by Russia in two attacks on Ukraine within the past week, Kirby said. White House laid out claims late Thursday and also said Moscow was seeking missiles from its ally Iran, as it burns through stockpiles of key munitions nearly two years into its invasion of Ukraine.

The destruction of Ukraine’s artillery inventory, the shortage of ammunition in the US and Europe after having donated Kyiv from their armories, and the inability to ramp up production owing to issues with their defense industrial bases have led to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) nearly substituting the deficit with kamikaze drones.

First-person view (FPV) unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) are the new artillery for Ukraine. Ukraine will double its deployment after repurposing such civilian aircraft for battlefield applications. The country pioneered the practice of tweaking commercial drones and quadcopters with explosives to be flown into Russian ground targets.

Russia adopted the practice later, but state-owned arms factories, private companies, and other self-funded and crowd-funded initiatives produced the drones. Moreover, Russia has a large stockpile of towed, self-propelled field guns of various calibers that keep figuring in their publicity material and other social media handles covering the war.

The Czech Republic’s notorious Kub air defense vehicles are now active on the ground against Russia. Could they use Western missiles?.

Czech Republic’s upgraded Soviet 2K12M2 Kub-M2 air defense vehicles—nicknamed the “Three Fingers of Death”—are now active on the ground in Ukraine, supplementing a small number of Ukrainian Kubs already claimed in service.Back on May 10, Czech president Petr Pavel stated he would transfer two Kub-M2 batteries to Ukraine, implying a total of six to eight launcher vehicles and two SURN 1S91 radar vehicles, as well as a “relatively large number” (ie. hundreds or low thousands) of 3M9 ramjet-powered anti-aircraft missiles. Now it’s clear at least some of those systems arrived.

After 18 months of relentless warfare, Ukraine needs more air defense missiles broadly as it depletes stocks of old Soviet-era missiles fending off a two-front Russian onslaught: constant attacks by cruise missiles and Iranian-origin kamikaze drones hitting civilians in Ukrainian cities, while low-flying attack helicopters and fighter-bombers carry out pop-up attacks on Ukrainian troops on the frontline.

Lockheed announced the delivery of the first two Vipers on 10 January, calling the fighters a leap in technology for Slovakia. “The delivery of the first two F-16 (ONLY TWO) Block 70 jets to Slovakia signifies a crucial starting point in bolstering the country’s defence capabilities,” says OJ Sanchez, vice-president of Lockheed’s integrated group.

Slovakia currently lacks operational fixed-wing fighters. Bratislava donated its entire fleet of 13 retired RAC MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine in 2023.

In addition to F-16s...Washington approved the sale of 12 Bell AH-1Z attack helicopters to Slovakia following MiG-29 transfer. US govt contributed $660 million to that $1 billion deal.

Bombs are designed to be dropped by jets far from their targets. The bombs then use a guided flight path to accurately deliver a payload that Western analysts consider to be a cluster munition. Russia already has glide bombs in its arsenal and has used them against Ukraine.

Over 100 countries signed the Convention on Cluster Munitions, banning their use, transfer, production, and stockpiling. Ukraine, Russia, and the U.S. are not among the signatories.

Drel bombs are intended to be used against armored vehicles, ground facilities, and anti-air defenses, according to the report.
