Russia Enlists 30,000 Soldiers Monthly for Ukraine Conflict....(to replace those missing, kill and those)

Vadym Skibitskyi, deputy chief major general of Ukraine's main military intelligence arm, has recently reported that Russia is enlisting approximately 30,000 soldiers monthly. Although this recruitment of soldiers each month suffices to compensate for frontline losses, Russia would have to initiate a larger-scale mobilization to build a more substantial strategic reserve.

This rate of recruitment, which averages 1,000 to 1,100 people per day, is in response to the significant casualties Russia has sustained in ongoing Ukraine conflict. This info is in line with the observations made by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), which corroborates the scale of Russia's efforts to maintain operational rotations in Ukraine. Targeting by year 2025, to hitt 500k Casualty.

Skibitskyi's statements shed light on the high-casualty approach of the Russian military, particularly in strategic urban battles such as those in Bakhmut and Avdiivka. Analysts have observed the continuation of these tactics across various fronts, notably the United States' report in October about Russia employing "human wave" tactics. These involve deploying underprepared and poorly equipped troops into high-intensity combat scenarios, often resulting in significant losses.

Russia May Have To Move Air Defenses To Cover Cities....Pentagon has no more money for Ukraine as it hosts a meeting of 50 allies on support for Kyiv.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The United States is out of money for Ukraine, unable to send the ammunition and missiles that the government in Kyiv needs to fend off Russia’s invasion.

With the aid caught up in domestic politics, the Biden administration on Tuesday came empty-handed for the first time as host of the monthly meeting of about 50 nations that coordinate support for Ukraine. The group was established by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin in April 2022.

While waiting for Congress to approve more money for Ukraine’s fight, Washington will look to allies to keep bridging the gap.

Source: European Pravda, citing Bloomberg. The Details: Copenhagen was supposed to deliver the first six aircraft by the new year of 2024, but instead, their delivery is expected in the second quarter, the ministry informed the newspaper..

The article states that the delivery schedule has always depended on the fulfilment of several conditions, including the successful training of Ukrainian pilots and the availability of sufficient logistics and infrastructure for servicing the F-16s in Ukraine, as stated by the ministry without providing more detailed information.

Berlingske reported that, currently, six Ukrainian pilots are undergoing training on these fighters in Denmark. In August, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen promised to send 19 F-16 aircraft to Kyiv.

Background:
On 5 January, it was reported that Norway had completed the delivery to Denmark of two F-16 fighter jets intended for training Ukrainian pilots.

Norway announced this week that it would send two F-16 fighter jets to Denmark to train Ukrainian pilots in their use and confirmed that it would send 10 instructors to Denmark to help with the training.
Belgium will also send two two-seat F-16 fighter jets and about fifty personnel to Denmark between March and September to train Ukrainian pilots.

Ukrainian pilots are or will be trained in the USA, Romania, Denmark, France and the UK. Last year, six Ukrainians completed basic training, including learning English, before Christmas.

As Ukraine awaits delivery of F-16s in 2024, U.S. revealed new details on training of Ukrainian pilots & maintainers. Currently 4-Ukrainian pilots undergoing F-16 training in U.S. official told Air & Space Forces Magazine, instruction is occurring @Morris Air National Guard Base, Ariz., in Tucson, where they are training with 162nd Wing U.S. Air Force’s, dedicated to foreign F-16 training unit.

Several other pilots are undergoing English-language training, the added approximately 20 maintainers are also undergoing English-language training at Joint Base San Antonio, Texas, for next several months. New details come after asst secretary of defense for international security affairs Celeste said F-16 pilot training for Ukraine is “on track” after a virtual meeting Ukraine Defense Contact Group, a gathering of over 50 countries that coordinates military aid.

“We are aiming to provide an initial ope capability for Ukraine with its F-16 program in 2024, entail trained pilots platforms, addition, trained maintainers and sustainers, infrastructure, & spare parts, ammunition,” Wallander told reporters at the Pentagon on Jan. 23.

The F-16 efforts are coordinated by an Air Force Coalition within the Ukraine Defense Contact Group. The U.S. government must sign off on any F-16 transfers, a move the Biden administration initially resisted before promoting the effort. However, the U.S. does not plan to provide its own F-16s.

Bodies of 77 Ukrainian soldiers repatriated to Kyiv on Jan 26, Russia had returned bodies of 77 soldiers, days after downing of a Russian military plane threw doubt on the future of such exchanges. As Moscow and Kyiv traded fresh accusations over crash of the transporter as Russia says was shot down near the border, killing 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs).

While Kyiv has not outright denied the claims, officials have appeared to question whether its POWs were on board. The latest repatriation of bodies appeared unrelated to downing of plane, which crashed in a fireball in Russia’s western Belgorod on Jan 24.

“Preparations for repatriation had been under way for a long time,” Ukraine’s Coordination HQs for the Treatment of Prisoners of War said in statement.

Hundreds of captured prisoners have been freed in dozens of exchanges throughout the two-year war.

Bodies of 77 Ukrainian soldiers repatriated to Kyiv The latest repatriation of bodies appears unrelated.

KYIV – Ukraine / Kyiv has not outright denied the claims, officials have appeared to question whether its POWs were on board. The latest repatriation of bodies appeared unrelated to the downing of the plane, which crashed in a fireball in Russia’s western Belgorod region on Jan 24. But Russia’s claims that Ukraine shot down a plane ferrying Ukrainian detainees had thrown doubts on the future of such exchanges.

Disputed evidence --- On Jan 26, Ukraine was still disputing Russia’s account of how the Ilyushin-76 military transporter crashed. The Kremlin dismissed the idea of releasing evidence proving that dozens of Ukrainian soldiers had been killed.

“Investigators are working, I have nothing to add on this topic,” Kremlin spokesman told reporters when asked if Russia planned to publish evidence on how plane are shot down, and who was on board.

Jan 25, Russia’s Investigative published video footage of the crash site, showed small chunk of plane debris & blurred close-ups of body. A second video is show on Jan 26 showed more debris, a forensics team sealing up body bag & photos of three identification documents it said were those of dead victims.

Ukraine’s human rights ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets dismissed the material released so far by Moscow as “elements of an info propaganda campaign against Ukraine”. Kyiv & Moscow have opened criminal investigations, as Ukrainian President Zelensky has called for an international investigation.

Poland and Korea Offer Lessons for Ending the Russia-Ukraine War

Permanent peace would require a unified and resolute negotiation effort from the West and a substantial security commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty.

March 18, 1921, Treaty of Riga sealed an uneasy peace between Soviet Russia & the 2nd Polish Republic following Polish-Soviet War, conflict was nominally a Polish victory over Soviet Union’s attempt to expand westward into the rest of Europe. As result a portions of modern-day Ukraine and Belarus came under Polish rule, containing the Soviets to the periphery of the continent.

However, despite territorial gains, the terms of the Treaty of Riga negatively affected Polish foreign policy over the next two decades. It hindered Poland’s alliance-building capability with other central and eastern European states. Additionally, Polish govt maintained a policy of conflict avoidance with the Soviets, even after Moscow violated certain treaty provisions.

Treaty of Riga enabled Soviets to exploit Poland’s ethnic minorities, already had difficult relations with central govt. Specifically, Belarusian & Ukrainian national movements b'cos co-opted by Soviets were instrumentalized to exacerbate internal conflicts within Poland. It led to heightened repression by Polish state & greater opposition from ethnic minorities. This outcome divided Eastern & Central Euro susceptible, both Stalin & Hitler. The case study of Treaty of Riga, negotiation process subsequent execution, offer lessons for another one of Russia’s neighbors with which it is currently at war.

Tensions fillowing Moldova and Russia escalated after Moscow's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, with pro-Western govt of Moldova repeatedly accusing Kremlin of destabilizatio. Alexei Polishchuk, the director of the 2nd Dept of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Countries. Russian Foreign Ministry, claimed in interview on Jan. 28 for Russian state-run media outlet TASS that Moldova began to "destroy its ties" with Russian-led CIS organization, as the rumors about Moldova leaving the CIS by the end of 2024 are circulating.

CIS established following breakup of Soviet Union in 1991 & it currently groups nine former Soviet republics. Moldova has not formally left the CIS but effectively suspended its participation in the organization in 2022Polishchuk alleged that leaving CIS may not benefit citizens or Moldovan economy.

It settlement of Transnistria issue in Moldova is in a "deep crisis," & Russia can fix deteriorating relations between Moldova and Transnistria as a "mediator and guarantor" in this issue. Transnistria is a breakaway region internationally recognized as part of Moldova. Russian troops @occupied Transnistria since early 1990s when Russia invaded region under the pretext of protecting ethnic Russians.

Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebrian announced on national radio on Jan. 28 that Moldova would not return to the 5+2 Transnistria negotiating process, included Russia as Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine continues. Speaking at a press conference on Jan. 29, the DPM said Chisinau is determined to resolve Transnistria issue "exclusively" through peaceful means.

"This position is supported by our colleagues in Kyiv. There are no plans for military or other kind of pressure on Transnistria," the ISW, Russia could make similar claims to Moldova as to Ukraine, referring to Russia’s accusations of Ukraine’s "abandoning" the Minsk Agreements, used as part of justifications for the full-scale invasion.

In previous assessment, the ISW determined Russia is slowly shaping the info space aimed destabilizing Moldova to justifying any future campaigns by framing Russia as a protector of "threatened Russian language speakers" in Moldova. This approach is almost identical to the narratives constructed by Russia to justify the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

In January, Russian-state media continued to embolden pro-Russian separatists in Moldova, possibly in an attempt to sow political instability and division, the ISW reported.
