Danish newspaper, citing Ministry of Defence of the country, reports the delivery of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine by Denmark has been delayed for six months. Source: European Pravda, citing Bloomberg. The Details: Copenhagen was supposed to deliver the first six aircraft by the new year of 2024, but instead, their delivery is expected in the second quarter, the ministry informed the newspaper.. 

The article states that the delivery schedule has always depended on the fulfilment of several conditions, including the successful training of Ukrainian pilots and the availability of sufficient logistics and infrastructure for servicing the F-16s in Ukraine, as stated by the ministry without providing more detailed information.

Berlingske reported that, currently, six Ukrainian pilots are undergoing training on these fighters in Denmark. In August, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen promised to send 19 F-16 aircraft to Kyiv.

On 5 January, it was reported that Norway had completed the delivery to Denmark of two F-16 fighter jets intended for training Ukrainian pilots.

Norway announced this week that it would send two F-16 fighter jets to Denmark to train Ukrainian pilots in their use and confirmed that it would send 10 instructors to Denmark to help with the training.
Belgium will also send two two-seat F-16 fighter jets and about fifty personnel to Denmark between March and September to train Ukrainian pilots.

Ukrainian pilots are or will be trained in the USA, Romania, Denmark, France and the UK. Last year, six Ukrainians completed basic training, including learning English, before Christmas.

As Ukraine awaits delivery of F-16s in 2024, U.S. revealed new details on training of Ukrainian pilots & maintainers. Currently 4-Ukrainian pilots undergoing F-16 training in U.S. official told Air & Space Forces Magazine, instruction is occurring @Morris Air National Guard Base, Ariz., in Tucson, where they are training with 162nd Wing U.S. Air Force’s, dedicated to foreign F-16 training unit.

Several other pilots are undergoing English-language training, the added approximately 20 maintainers are also undergoing English-language training at Joint Base San Antonio, Texas, for next several months. New details come after asst secretary of defense for international security affairs Celeste said F-16 pilot training for Ukraine is “on track” after a virtual meeting Ukraine Defense Contact Group, a gathering of over 50 countries that coordinates military aid.

Bodies of 77 Ukrainian soldiers repatriated to Kyiv on Jan 26, Russia had returned bodies of 77 soldiers, days after downing of a Russian military plane threw doubt on the future of such exchanges. As Moscow and Kyiv traded fresh accusations over crash of the transporter as Russia says was shot down near the border, killing 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs).

While Kyiv has not outright denied the claims, officials have appeared to question whether its POWs were on board. The latest repatriation of bodies appeared unrelated to downing of plane, which crashed in a fireball in Russia’s western Belgorod on Jan 24.

“Preparations for repatriation had been under way for a long time,” Ukraine’s Coordination HQs for the Treatment of Prisoners of War said in statement.

Poland and Korea Offer Lessons for Ending the Russia-Ukraine War

Permanent peace would require a unified and resolute negotiation effort from the West and a substantial security commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty.

March 18, 1921, Treaty of Riga sealed an uneasy peace between Soviet Russia & the 2nd Polish Republic following Polish-Soviet War, conflict was nominally a Polish victory over Soviet Union’s attempt to expand westward into the rest of Europe. As result a portions of modern-day Ukraine and Belarus came under Polish rule, containing the Soviets to the periphery of the continent.

However, despite territorial gains, the terms of the Treaty of Riga negatively affected Polish foreign policy over the next two decades. It hindered Poland’s alliance-building capability with other central and eastern European states. Additionally, Polish govt maintained a policy of conflict avoidance with the Soviets, even after Moscow violated certain treaty provisions.

Treaty of Riga enabled Soviets to exploit Poland’s ethnic minorities, already had difficult relations with central govt. Specifically, Belarusian & Ukrainian national movements b'cos co-opted by Soviets were instrumentalized to exacerbate internal conflicts within Poland. It led to heightened repression by Polish state & greater opposition from ethnic minorities. This outcome divided Eastern & Central Euro susceptible, both Stalin & Hitler.
