Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a telephone conversation with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, presented Russia's position in relation to the course of the "special military operation" in eastern Ukraine, informs the Kremlin.

According to the Kremlin's announcement, Putin talked to the head of the Council of Europe, incl. about the "humanitarian aspects of the current situation" in Ukraine.

The Russian leader was to emphasize that "the Russian army used all possible means" to "save the lives of civilians."

Putin argued to Michel that "the main threat to civilians are the formations of Ukrainian nationalists who use terrorist tactics and hide among civilians."


The Russian leader also said that the armed forces of the Russian Federation "announced several times" the opening of humanitarian corridors to allow the evacuation of residents from cities under attack by the Russians. However, the Kremlin accuses the Ukrainian side that "nationalist troops prevented the evacuation by resorting to violence against civilians and various provocations".
