Russia again launched their latest, largest ever drone and missile attack against Ukraine as their monthly production number of long range drones continues to skyrocket.  Trump has finally expressed his frustration with Putin of Russia's unwillingness to stop this war or agree to a ceasefire.  People who support Russia and Trump soon are going to have to pick just one.

UK's base builds on broader £18.3 billion in UK aid to Ukraine since start of russia's full-scale invasion. The initiative is part of the UK-Ukraine 100-Year Partnership, a framework for long-term cooperation in defense, economic development, and reconstruction.

As Defense Express reported, Germany has agreed to finance purchase of 2 U.S. produced Patriot air defense systems for Ukraine, including missiles needed to operate them.

President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed Russia's intention to drastically escalate its drone attacks, potentially launching up to 1,000 drones per day. Russia has significantly intensified its aerial bombardments across Ukraine. Overnight on July 9, Russia launched largest missile and drone attack against multiple Ukrainian cities, with the far-western city of Lutsk coming under the wee heaviest attack of the war.

Commander in Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi previously said the effectiveness of drones stands@70%, President added Ukrainian scientists & engineers have found a proven effective technology from several manufacturers that can counteract Iranian-designed Shahed drones. Ukraine will be able to mass-produce counter-drones so Ukraine’s new interceptor UAVs are starting to knock Russia’s long-range Shahed drones out of the sky. Meanwhile in just resently Ukraine drone missiles hit across federation of Russia from western Russia & take fight right up to reaching Russia far east.

Such new Ukrainian interceptors can clear the skies of swarms of sometimes 500 Shaheds at a time remains an open question. Ukrainians involved in making these drones declined to specify production rates. They anticipated that production expansion would take through the fall.

"We need to make it so Russians cry bitter tears, so they’re afraid to take flight," said one of the financier of the new interceptor drones taking out Russian UAVs.

Ukraine said two agents working for Russia have been killed after a senior Ukrainian intelligence officer was shot dead on Thursday.
The head of Ukraine's Security Service (SBU), Vasyl Malyuk, said in a video statement that two agents working for Russia's security service FSB had been tracked down and "liquidated" after they resisted arrest on Sunday morning. It comes after Col Ivan Voronych was shot several times in a Kyiv car park in broad daylight, after being approached by an unidentified assailant who fled the scene.. On Sunday, Ukraine's national police said the two agents killed were "citizens of a foreign country", without giving any further details. Moscow had no immediate response.

CCTV footage of incident on 10 July - verified by news agency Reuters - showed a man leaving a building in Kyiv's southern Holosiivskyi district shortly after 09:00 local time (06:00 GMT), while another man ran towards him. The SBU said on Sunday suspects had tracking Col Voronych's movements prior to the attack, & co-ordinates & round a hiding place, they found a pistol with a silencer,
after he was shot, they then tried to "lay low," but were found following a joint investigation with national police. The SBU mainly focuses on internal security and counter-intelligence, like the UK's MI5 played a prominent role in sabotage attacks and assassinations deep inside Russia since Moscow's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Sources within Ukraine's security services told BBC. The SBU was responsible for the killing of the high-ranking Russian Gen Igor Kirillov in December 2024. In April, Gen Yaroslav Moskalik was killed in a car bomb attack in Moscow - which the Kremlin blamed on Kyiv. Ukraine's security services have never officially admitted responsibility for the deaths.
On Tuesday. Zelensky said Ukraine faced its largest ever Russian aerial attack. June, recorded the highest monthly civilian casualties in three years, according to the UN. Fighting has also continued on frontlines, with enemy making slow gains in eastern Ukraine and retaking control of most of Russia's Kursk region that Kyiv's forces seized in a surprise offensive last summer. Efforts to negotiate ceasefire more than 3 year
long war have faltered. As Putin wanted since Feb 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

In Zaporizhzhia region, a Ukrainian MiG-29 fighter jet hit with a precision strike using GBU-39 guided bombs on Russian drone command centre. Footage of op was shared on Telegram channel associated w/Ukrainian combat aviation.
Jet flew at ultra-low altitude to attack to ensure mission success & evade Russian air defense systems. At low altitudes, aircraft are able to evade radar detection – especially in conditions of low visibility or in areas covered by air defense systems with a limited range. In launch area, MiG-29 engaged afterburners, rapidly gained altitude, and released GBU-39 precision-guided bombs. The high-precision GBU-39 bombs struck a tree line where the invaders had set up a drone command center.

As early as last year, it known Ukrainian Air Force had adapted Soviet-era combat MiG-29 to carry & deploy GBU-39 bomb weighs 130 kg, diameter approximately 190 mm & about 1.8 meters long. When dropped from high altitude & maximum range of up to 110 km, bomb is equipped with fold-out wings, which significantly extend its strike range. Thks to tungsten tip, it can penetrate concrete shelters during a dive. The fuze system allows for selectable detonation modes—either an airburst or a delayed explosion after impact. Its high precision is achieved through a guidance system that combines inertial navigation w/GPS.

Ukrainian government was formally dissolved on July 16, marking the first full reshuffle during Russia's full-scale invasion. A day later, the new Cabinet of Ministers was voted in.

Yuliia Svyrydenko, until very recently Ukraine's first deputy prime minister, was nominated by President Volodymyr Zelensky to replace Denys Shmyhal, the longest-serving prime minister in the country's history.

The change comes at a critical moment for Kyiv, as it continues to wrestle with Russian aggression while trying to navigate its transforming — and at times tumultuous — relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump.

Yet, even as the parliament approved Svyrydenko and her new Cabinet on July 17, the government has retained many of the old faces. This includes Shmyhal himself, demoted to Ukraine's defense minister.

Russian media and political leaders are shocked by the discussed delivery of an American made missiles to Ukraine that can reach Moscow and beyond. After Trump offered multiple chances for a ceasefire and diplomatic resolution, he has now hardened his stance by tripling the range of Ukrainian strikes. In the last hours, Russian dread has surged amid reports that the U.S. may authorize the delivery of AGM-158 cruise missiles to Ukraine, potentially transforming the whole landscape of the war. The mere suggestion Ukraine might soon possess the capability to strike targets up to 1,000 km inside Russian territory has sent shockwaves fear stems from the possibility Ukraine’s constantly growing fleet of F-16 fighters, could be swiftly upgraded with these stealthy cruise missiles, dramatically reshaping Russian logistical defensive priorities. Simultaneously former Russian. As transportation minister was fired just days ago by Vladimir Putin and found dead just hours later, which creates additional chaos within the Russian bureaucratic machine.

Central to this upheaval is the AGM-158 Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile or Jassm, with its variants presenting serious threats to critical Russian infrastructure previously deemed safe. The baseline missile has a 370 kilometer range, and a formidable 450 kilogram penetrating warhead designed to breach hidden targets with precision guidance. Even more daunting is its extended-range version, the Jassm ER capable of reaching targets up to 1,000 kilometers away. Their stealth design compatibility with F-16 aircraft, a platform already integrated into Ukraine’s air force, would grant an unprecedented capability to launch devastating precision strikes.

The strategic significance of this range extension is immense. Previously unreachable targets, such as the National Defense Management Center in Moscow, the heart of Russia’s military command-and-control infrastructure, would now fall within Ukraine’s potential strike radius. Equally vulnerable would be Russia’s Southern Military District Headquarters in Rostov-on-Don, a pivotal command hub coordinating military operations across Ukraine’s eastern regions. Targets, especially the center in Moscow may not be targeted outright but the mere presence of powerful missiles within Ukraine’s arsenal will create an understanding that if Russia continues to target Ukrainian high command centers, they can lose theirs too. Just having such missiles creates a strategic shift in favor of the Ukrainians.

Logistics facilities and ammunition depots crucial for sustaining Russia’s war effort would likewise become accessible targets, with the Kerch Bridge, vital for supplying Russian forces in Crimea and carrying symbolic significance for Putin’s regime, would be the first high-value one. Similarly, ammunition depots such as the 51st Arsenal near Barsovo, Vladimir Oblast, housing over 264,000 tonnes of munitions, and the 1060th Logistics Support Centre near Bryansk, would face serious threats of destruction, severely undermining Russia’s frontline op. These threats extend further to the Egorlykskaya base near Rostov, known to store North Korean-supplied munitions used by Russian forces in Ukraine. Crucially, the AGM-158 missiles would allow Ukraine to target Russian airbases well beyond the reach of current capabilities. The Engels-2 Air Base, housing Russia’s strategic bomber fleet, as well as the Lipetsk Air Base, essential for training Russia’s dwindling pilot reserves, would be directly threatened. Shaykovka Air Base, home to long-range bombers frequently used in missile strikes against Ukrainian infrastructure, and the strategically significant Saky Air Base in Crimea, would also find themselves within reach of devastating attacks.

The emergence of this capability demands that Russia fundamentally reconsider its defensive posture. To safeguard deep rear areas, Moscow must redeploy its already strained air defense assets, weakening frontline coverages. Under sanctions and attrition, the replenishment of sophisticated air defense systems like the S-400 has become increasingly challenging. This leaves frontline troops and logistics vulnerable to Ukrainian drones and missile strikes, already intensifying in frequency and effectiveness. Overall, the introduction of AGM-158 missiles would dramatically shift the balance of power, exposing Russia’s critical rear infrastructure to unprecedented danger. Beyond physical destruction, the psychological impact would erode Putin’s domestic narrative of invulnerability, permanently shattering the illusion of secure rear sanctuaries. This looming threat alone is reshaping Russia’s strategic calculus, and if the delivery becomes a fact, it will...

Germany has officially requested to acquire US-made Typhon missile systems to enhance its long-range deterrence, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius confirmed during a visit to Washington on July 14. Big Grin

The system’s range—up to 2,500 km—technically allows it to reach targets deep inside Russia, but Pistorius emphasized its use would be strictly defensive.

The proposal was discussed with US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, who reacted positively, though a final decision from Washington is still pending, according to NTV on July 15.

The Russian exclave of Kaliningrad is once again in the news, after a senior U.S. military commander on July 17  issued a stark warning to the Kremlin that NATO forces could take control of it "in a timeframe that is unheard of." The remarks from U.S. Army Europe and Africa commander General Chris Donahue are some of the strongest yet from a Western military official — a direct threat to the Kremlin about the consequences of further Russian aggression beyond Ukraine.

They come amid ever-heightening tensions between NATO and Russia since the start of its full-scale invasion, and after a series of warnings from Western officials about Moscow's future intentions to attack NATO members. "I'm fairly certain that if the Russians were to attack the Baltic states, one of the first places to be bombed by NATO — if it isn't Moscow or St. Petersburg — would be Kaliningrad," Dr. Stephen Hall, lecturer in Russian and post-Soviet politics at the University of Bath, told the Kyiv Independent.
